UVF 2021 Elections: Who is Hadija Namanda, Why is She Seeking For a Second Term?
Few days back, we gave you the history, and background of Salma Kairungi who is vying for a position of second vice president of Uganda Volleyball Federation in the 31, January 2021 elections.
Today we are here with the history, achievements and ambitions of the Incumbent, Hadija Namanda who is vying to retain her seat as the head of the federation.
She has been the seating President since 2017, she is now seeking for the second term.
“Serving Volleyball at the helm is an honour I give thanks to the God for having given me the opportunity. I am a firm believer in appreciating the journey so I always believe in baby steps to reaching great milestones.
I am passionate about sport and seeing that the athlete grows to their fullest potential is my ultimate dream.
As I seek mandate to lead the UVF in the next Quadrennial, I am committed to service above self in leaving a long-term legacy and sustainability in regards to the development of the sport of Volleyball and sport in General.
I therefore declare my Candidacy for the Office of The President, Uganda Volleyball Federation for a second and last term; to accomplish the plans and programmes that were cut short by the pandemic as well as those that are already underway . I humbly call upon the fraternity to vote me in and serve as the next Uganda Volleyball Federation President. Thank you” the preamble of Hadija’s manifesto.

2017 – 2020 ACHIEVEMENTS AND HIGHLIGHTS
1. IMPROVED FIVB CONTINENTAL RANKINGS.
The FIVB Continental Rankings for the Volleyball She Cranes is 9th in Africa and the Volleyball Cranes are ranked 17 in Africa. This I a great achievement given that we participate in few ranking tournaments
2. ACQUISITION OF INTERNATIONAL COURT SYSTEM AND FLOOR.
The first of its kind in Uganda, The acquisition of the international floor will support our teams in the quality of our game as well as the Kenya for example has utilised its floor for the last 20 years and the result of performance with acclimatization is evident in their top spot ranking in Africa.
3. CAPACITY BUILDING AT NATIONAL, CONTINENTAL AND FIVB COACHING COURSES
1. 2017, 1 of our coaches participated in the CAVB High Performance Coaches seminar in Egypt.
2. 2018, we hosted the CAVB national coaching course with 28 participants.
3. 2019, we hosted the FIVB level 2 coaching course where we had 27 participants from Uganda,
Kenya, Cameroun and Tanzania.
4. 2019, we hosted the CAVB National Beach Volleyball coaching course where we had 15 participants.
5. 2019, 4 of our coaches participated in the CAVB High Performance Coaches seminar in Kenya.
6. 2019, 2 of our coaches participated in the CAVB High Performance Coaches seminar in Egypt.
7. 2020 we hosted the FIVB level 2 coaching course where we had 27 participants from Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan and Tanzania.
4. CAPACITY BUILDING AT NATIONAL LEVEL FOR REFEREES
We held regional and national level 1 courses during the three years. Over 600 referees were trained across the country.
In 2020 we were to host the CAVB National Referees Course and 85 referees from the region were to participate but the COVID pandemic affected the hosting. The course was deferred to 2021 in March.
5. PARTICIPATION OF NATIONAL TEAMS AND CLUBS AT ZONAL AND CONTINENTAL LEVEL.
Our teams Senior and Junior teams participated in almost all zonal and continental qualifiers These include;
1. 2017, beach volleyball zone 5 world cup qualifiers men and women hosted at Lido beach
Entebbe (Kenya, Sudan, Rwanda and Uganda)
2. 2017, Zone 5 FIVB world championship qualifiers women hosted in Kenya (Kenya, Egypt, Rwanda and Uganda)
3. 2017, Zone 5 FIVB world championship qualifiers men hosted in Rwanda (Rwanda, Uganda, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya and Tanzania)
4. 2017 we hosted the Uganda International Beach Volleyball Tournament in Entebbe
5. 2018, CAVB Zone 5 3rd Africa Youth games qualifiers Boys which were hosted in Kampala. (Uganda, Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda and Sudan)
6. 2018, CAVB Zone 5 3rd Africa Youth games qualifiers Girls which were hosted in Kampala. (Uganda, Egypt, Kenya, Sudan)
7. 2018, our Men’s and Women’s National teams participated in the Inaugural East Africa Community games in Burundi and were both ranked 1st.
8. 2018 CAVB U20 women’s Africa Nations Championship held in Nairobi with 9 participating countries.
9. 2018 we hosted the Uganda International Beach Volleyball Tournament in Entebbe.
10. 2019 Three of our teams participated in Inaugural Zone 5 men’s club championships and were ranked 4th, 5th and 6th.
11. 2019 we hosted the All Africa games qualifiers for women and our she cranes were ranked 2nd. Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Rwanda participated.
12. 2019, Kenya hosted the All Africa games qualifiers for men and our Volleyball Cranes were ranked 2nd. Kenya, Uganda, Egypt and Rwanda participated.
13. 2019, CAVB Zone 5 U21 African cup of Nations beach volleyball qualifiers in Tanzania with teams from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania participating.
14. 2019 Zone 5 ANOCA youth games where our junior boys and girls beach volleyball team participated
15. Beach Volleyball Sub-zonal beach Volleyball Continental Cup Olympic qualifiers for Men were hosted in Uganda in December 2019 and the Women were hosted in Tanzania in January 2020.
16. Beach Volleyball Second round Continental Cup Olympic qualifiers for women were hosted in Entebbe in March 2020 with Mozambique, Egypt, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Guinea Conakry participating.
17. Our International tournaments, the Aporu Akol in Kumi and KAVC tournaments continue to draw teams from across the boarders and our teams have continued to excel. Our teams have also participated in the GMT tournament in Rwanda where the teams excelled too.
18. Our league winners and National Champions have represented us very well at the Africa Club Championships over the 3 years. Our men’s best ranking is 6th and the women’s ranking is 8th.
6. ALL LEAGUES RUNNING ACROSS THE COUNTRY
The East, North, West and Central leagues were all successfully run during the 3-year period.
7. NCS ENGAGEMENTS AND VOLLEYBALL STANDING
1. During the lockdown, engagement with NCS bore some fruit. The funding policy was key amongst all discussions and will be out soon.
2. Standard Courts for Volleyball will be done at Namboole after the renovations.
3. Teryet High Altitude centre has included beach volleyball standard court and another at the feeder school
8. CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP HOSTING
Uganda was for the first time awarded the right to host the continental CAVB U20 Women Africa Cup of Nations 2020 but due the Pandemic, the hosting was shifted to 2021 in Feb.
9. PARTNERSHIPS AND SUPPORT TO THE FEDERATION AND OUR TEAMS
Our National league play offs was boosted by the Aziz Damani sports family over the 3 years. Our local championships and continental qualifiers have always been supported by Crown beverages. We are grateful to our partners and partners of our various clubs, Universities and schools in ensuring the teams continue to train and compete.
10. PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS
We continued to facilitate and support the process of our players to play their trade across the borders.
Our Professionals and Semi Professionals have continued to shine in Korea, Turkey, Rwanda, Bulgaria Poland Kenya and UAE.
2021-2025 GAME PLAN
1. GRASSROOT DEVELOPMENT
a. Promotion of competition and decentralising trainings, calendars at regional level.
b. For All girl’s championships, National Junior Championships and National Championships, Competition will start at regional level with the top 4 or 8 qualifying for the final round. This is to promote competition right from the region to National representation.
c. Continue with our regional Senior leagues and also introduce the junior leagues at regional level.
d. Beach Volleyball at school will be introduced to support and develop the age group beach volleyball competitions.
e. Emphasis on development of grass root Volleyball with support to Clubs to grow young athletes through established academies. This coupled with clubs partnering with schools will be a support system or “feeding basket” for age group competition, Clubs, institutions and National teams.
2. COMPETITION AND EXPOSURE
a. Continue to work with the CAVB and different National Federations in zone 5 to ensure that there is a Zone 5 Championship for different categories.
b. Lobby for opportunities for the teams to participate in tournaments across the continent.
c. Technical exchanges and participation for athletes and technical personnel in the federation and fraternity in general.
d. Continue with hosting Zonal and Continental events in Uganda and well as having our teams participate in Championships abroad.
3. PROMOTION OF VOLLEYBALL AS AN OLYMPIC SPORT
a. Promote the core values Olympism of that is Mutual respect, Promotion of excellence and celebration of friendship
b. Promote Unity in diversity to keep the ball flying.
c. Promote inclusiveness and equity in the sport.
4. NETWORKING AND PARTNERING TO GROW THE SPORT
a. Partnership with National Sports Officers Association (NASOA), a national body of District Sports officers to Liaise with the regional and District Volleyball structures and provide statistics on Volleyball at school for planning purposes and support.
b. Partnering with Paulo Pan Foundation from Brazil is underway with the project of “Building a Volleyball Nation-Uganda”. Paulo Pan Foundation is one of the key stakeholders behind the great success of Volleyball in Rwanda. The partnership was to kick-off 2020 and was affected by the pandemic. It will be run on regional basis to impact the grassroots.
c. The Partnership with Kalungi Foundation will continue. The initial programme was inaugurated with a female players and coaches training by Jacqueline Kalungi, a former National player in the USA.
d. Continue Lobbying from Networks I belong to for marketing of the sports, technical support
and opportunities for athletes and technical wing.
e. Partners support the federation and our clubs. Aziz Damani sports club as well as Crown beverages have been supportive over the 3-year period. Other partners have supported our teams at various engagements. Pursuit of other partners is in progress.
