USSSA Travel Puzzle Solved: St Noa Girls, Athletics Teams Set for Morogoro Departure

St Noa Girls School is among the teams scheduled to depart Kampala tomorrow as preparations continue for Uganda’s participation in the FEASSA Games 2026 in Morogoro, Tanzania.
According to an update from Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) President Justus Mugisha, St Noa Girls will leave alongside other teams as efforts intensify to ensure all remaining schools safely join the Morogoro-bound convoy.
The latest update comes after several schools successfully crossed the Busia border into Kenya today, including Seroma Christian High School, Nabisunsa Girls School, Mbogo High School, Jinja Secondary School, Wissey/Katikamu SDA/Light College Katikamu, Stahiza and St. Cyprian Kyabakade.
USSSA also confirmed that two athletics teams are expected to depart tomorrow aboard Sseku Secondary School and Happy Nation buses, carrying the girls’ and boys’ athletics teams respectively.
The association further revealed progress in resolving earlier compliance challenges that affected travel arrangements. All drivers who reported to the Ministry of Works and Transport underwent medical and other required tests and were issued valid badges, while buses were inspected, cleared and certified at Namanve.
USSSA hailed the support from the Ministry of Works and Transport, Ministry of Education and Sports, and Uganda Police Force for facilitating the clearance process.
However, teams encountered a new challenge after several buses were found to be overweight at weighing bridges in Tanzania. USSSA advised schools against carrying large quantities of water to Morogoro, noting that water is readily available and cheaper at the destination, while extra loads contribute to weight violations.
The association said intervention from Tanzanian hosts helped schools avoid heavy penalties arising from the weight concerns.
USSSA projected that all remaining buses would arrive at Busia by 11:00am tomorrow to join the convoy heading to Morogoro.
“Safety of our students remains our top priority and we remain committed to ensuring all movement is compliant and secure,” said Mugisha.
The travel disruptions have also provided lessons for future planning, with USSSA pledging to strengthen preparations and coordination to avoid similar challenges in upcoming regional engagements.
