USSSA Capacity Building: Trainees Applaud Association for Great Initiative, Promise to Put Knowledge Acquired into Action As Phase Two Training Climax
The second phase of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association capacity building training climaxed on Thursday at Kibuli Secondary School.
Over 270 students and games teachers took part in this sports knowledge workshop to which they applauded of adding them much value.
In an interaction with this website, a number of participants revealed how the training brainstormed their minds and they are ready to implement what they have learnt in the four days they have had at Kibuli.
Sharom Achanda is one of the students who studied Netball coaching, the 13yr old student from Elite School Entebbe asserted that she learnt a lot and she is going to implement them before her classmates and family.
“Why I decided to go for Netball because, it’s an interactive sport and you work as a group.” She noted “what I have learnt in Netball, you need to make quick decisions. With the knowledge I got, I can now become a coach, and I would see no reason as to why my school hire a coach when I can.
I can also inspire people around me like my classmates, family members to also do Netball.” Achanda Maria Sharom said.
A teacher from Teso College, Owoye Justine was among those who studied Netball umpiring, and she came with her daughters who studied coaching. She appreciated USSSA for the initiative and asked them to also do refresher courses.
“I came here with my daughters because I know these stills can make them go heights since they are still in secondary and it will be better for them. They have trained as coaches and I trained as umpires. I wasn’t in Netball umpiring before but I got the rules, they gave us the rule books but since we had few days here, I ask the Association to give us refresher courses, so that we be upto date of the game.” She noted.
Simon Okello from Lira, studied Football refereeing and he said that he is taking the career very serious.
“I want to thank USSSA, they accommodated us well, everything was ok since we came, I really oved the course. I took refereeing and I intend to go and practice more and more of what I have learnt from here.
The guest of Honor, Mr. Mulindwa Ismail, the Director Basic education from ministry of education and sports thanked USSSA for putting up the trainings because during their early days, they never gotten chance to have such workshops and he asked the association to take it even to neighboring countries.
“I want to thank USSSA, when we were doing sports, we never had chance to attend these courses, I don’t remember in my sports career that there is a day we went for training……..I want to see you even supporting our neighbors like Rwanda because I don’t know whether they have such programs.” The Guest of Honor said.
The Association president, Mr. Justus Mugisha revealed their target in four years.
“Our target is that, in the next four years, we train a minimum of 10000 students and teachers, so far now we are doing very well, we had like 748 in December, now this one pushes us to 1000. So we we shall have other capacity building trainings, we are looking at having one every holiday.” President himself.
