Kampala District champions Lubiri Secondary School maintained their impressive form at the ongoing 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games II in Gulu City after completing the group stage with a perfect record in the Under-17 Boys’ Football Championship.
The Dan Ssegawa-coached side finished top of Group B with a maximum 12 points after winning all four of their matches to comfortably secure a place in the knockout stage.
Lubiri announced themselves in style with a commanding 4-1 victory over Ocer Campion Jesuit College, thanks to a sensational four-goal performance from striker Bonny Namiti.
They followed up with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Greenlight Islamic School, with Kat Wuor Kat scoring the decisive goal in a tightly contested encounter.
On Sunday, Lubiri wrapped up their group campaign with two more victories. They first edged Hope Secondary School Nakirebe 2-1, with goals from Bonny Namiti and Mustapha Waako, before Bonny Namiti once again proved the match winner as Lubiri defeated St Paul and Pauline Secondary School, Gayaza-Masaka 1-0.
The four victories ensured Lubiri finished as Group B winners, and they now await the outcome of the clash between Dynamic Secondary School Ssonde and St Henry’s College Kitovu to determine their Round of 16 opponents.
Speaking after completing the perfect group-stage run, Lubiri head coach Dan Ssegawa praised his players for their discipline and commitment.
“We came here with a target of qualifying for the knockout stage, and we have achieved it by topping our group. Our focus now is to see how far we can go, and our ambition is to reach the semi-finals of this year’s championship,” Ssegawa said.
He attributed the team’s success to the players’ willingness to follow instructions.
“This performance has come because the boys have listened to and interpreted the instructions from the technical team very well. If they continue responding positively, I believe we can go very far in this championship.”
The Under-17 Boys’ Football group stage concludes on Monday before the tournament enters the knockout and classification rounds beginning on Tuesday, where the race for the national title intensifies.
