USSSA Ball Games 2026: Amus College Players See no goalposts in Penalty Shootout Drama as Rines, Boni Set Final Bend

WAKISO – Boni Consillii and Rines SS will battle for the 2026 USSSA U20 Girls’ Football Championship after both sides emerged victorious in dramatic semifinal encounters on Thursday at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.

Boni Consillii booked their maiden appearance in the national final after eliminating defending champions St Noa Girls School 3-2 in a penalty shootout following a thrilling 2-2 draw in normal time.

St Noa Girls looked destined for another final when Martha Babirye curled home a well-struck free kick from about 20 yards to hand the reigning champions a first-half lead.

However, Boni Consillii returned from the break with renewed purpose after introducing Kampala Queens forward Peace Muduwa and Mungutimu Sheila in place of Sauda Ninsiima and Namulindwa Joan Kizza.

The tactical changes transformed the Western Region champions, who struck twice in quick succession. Muduwa restored parity in the 62nd minute with a composed finish before Ariho Rinah completed the turnaround two minutes later, rifling a spectacular effort into the top corner beyond the reach of goalkeeper Lillian Nakirya.

With defeat looming, St Noa mounted a late response. Patricia Nayiga embarked on a brilliant run from deep on the left flank before delivering a cutback that substitute Katusiime Evelyn converted with just two minutes remaining to force the contest into penalties.

Boni held their nerve from the spot, prevailing 3-2 to avenge last year’s 4-1 defeat to St Noa and secure their first-ever place in the championship final.

In the day’s second semifinal, Rines SS edged Amus College School after another tense contest ended goalless in regulation time.

The shootout proved decisive as Amus squandered all three of their penalty attempts through; Vicky Atyeronimungu, Charity Katusiime and Modesta Odera sending each effort off target, while Rines converted their kicks from Patricia Nakato Nanyanzi, Halimah Mupyanga and Justine Ayerango.

Rines SS will be making their second appearance in the final in three years, having previously finished runners-up in 2024 after losing to Kawempe Muslim SS in Ndejje.

Friday’s final at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium guarantees a first-time champion, with neither Boni Consillii nor Rines SS having previously lifted the USSSA U20 girls’ football title.

Despite falling at the semifinal stage, St Noa Girls School and Amus College School have also secured qualification for the FEASSA Games, joining the two finalists as Uganda’s representatives at the regional championship scheduled for August in Tanzania.
