Netball: UNF Throws Off Fundraising Campaign to Build Own Home, Starts with Internal Affairs Minister

Netball is one of the oldest and famous sport in Uganda but the over 60 years it has spent on the soil of the Pearl of Africa, they never dreamt of having own home until the new executive came into power in 2021.

Among her ten point Program while vying for the top seat of Uganda Netball Federation, the former Youth Member of Parliament, Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah promised to turn Netball a professional sport and the one with own home since it’s a game mostly dominated by women who’s clear definition is a home.

In their first executive meeting held early this week at the Federation Office at Old Kampala, they agreed to start the campaign of soliciting funds that will help in pursuing their dream of having the Netball home.

According to the president, in that meeting, they decided to hold a fundraising dinner on 24th June 2022 at Serena Hotel Kampala where they will start soliciting funds.

 

Today, the federation president, Hon. Kityo Sarah and the Board of Trustees member-Madam Eva Magala paid a visit to Ministry of Internal Affairs Minister, Hon. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire to officially inform him about the drive and to thank him for continuous support rendered towards the development of Netball.

“General [Kahinda Otafiire] is among the people who stood with us through out, he is not alone but we decided to start with him because he has been a pillar towards the success the public see in Netball, during lockdown, he cleared us with security which helped us to do our paperwork in time, when we were going in Pent Series, most of our girls never had passports, he helped us to smoothen the process, he rendered us much support so we decided to come and thank him as well as give him the report of what we have achieved so far. ” Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah told this website before adding. ” We are also going to visit other Ugandans who stood with us in this journey so far.”

In her words, the Uganda Netball Federation Board of Trustees member-Madam Eva Magala who represented all revealed that another issue as to why they visited Minister is to ask him join their campaign of getting Netball own home.

“I am here on behalf of my fellow Trustees who are trying to make a fundraising drive to get Netball a home, Football has own home but Netball doesn’t and it’s no. 2 on the continent, we want to be number one but to achieve that we need also to have a good home where our girls will train from, where they will have a base. So we are here to meet the Minister to inform him about our campaign so that he join us and attract others to come.

We are going to have a fundraising dinner but we have kicked off the drive today, and we are going to meet other partners to see that this dream comes true. ” Said Madam Eva Magala.

Netball wants to have a home sitting on five arces and they want to get land in areas like Mukono, Kampala and Wakiso but according to inside sources, they have already contacted land owner in Entebbe who’s land is at around 2bn shillings.
