The Uganda Electoral Commission spokesperson, Paul Bukenya revealed that starting Saturday 26th December 2020, no campaign meetings shall be allowed in Kampala and other districts/cities with less than a month to the polling day.
Bukenya cited out that these are the high risk areas, ministry of Health highlighted as the areas with great and speedy spread of COVID-19 in the country.
Other districts where campaign meetings have been banned are Mbarara, Kabarole, Luwero, Kasese, Masaka, Wakiso, Kabarole, Jinja, Kalungu, Kazo, Kampala and Tororo.

“The EC has suspended campaign meetings in districts/cities categorised by Ministry of Health as having high spread of Covid19. From 26/12/20, no campaign meetings will be held in Mbarara, Kabarole, Luwero, Kasese, Masaka, Wakiso, Kabarole, Jinja, Kalungu, Kazo, Kampala and Tororo,” Mr Bukenya tweeted.
The Ministry of Heath on Friday confirmed 446 new Covid-19 infections as cases rose to 33,360 with 245 virus deaths.
However, Bukenya did not give solution to that challenge, and how will the candidates from Councillors level to top seat contestants handle their campaigns.
