UBF Elections: The Coming of Ssembuya Stephen Puts Muhangi in a Panic Mode, He Amends the Constitution
Kampala: The new chairman of Zana Boxing Club, Ssembuya Magulu Stephen declared to contest against incumbent Moses Muhangi on the top seat of Uganda Boxing Federation executive committee in the January 2022 expected Polls.
In the press briefing held by the Uganda Boxing Federation ‘Board of Trustees’ members at Centenary Park-Kampala on Thursday, Ssembuya Stephen declared his interests to contest for presidency because he feels that he has all the necessary requirements to stand against Muhangi.
“I am passionate about the sport, I already had and have my boxing club called Ssembuya boxing club with at least 150, kids, I am the legit chairman of Zana Boxing, so I have the qualifications and I will contest when the time comes.” Ssembuya told Media in a clear voice.
However, his interests and efforts to stand against incumbent may go in vain because as we speak, the Boxing Federation Constitution was amended and it’s to lock many outside the context including Ssembuya.
The newly amended Constitution, which was finalised yesterday in a meeting held at Lugogo, someone to contest for presidency must have a diploma or anything equivalent, Sports Management Certificate, must have served on any boxing club executive for at least five years except the incumbent. One must have National Technical Officer (NTO) certificate.
When asked whether he has the above listed qualifications, Ssembuya said that Muhangi is trying to lock out people who has potential to contest against him but as boxing family they will try to fight against that because to him, the Constitution was illegally amended.
“He did that not for the good of the development of the game but for personal gains, when Mr. Kapere heard that I am coming, he developed fear, that’s why he rushed to amend the Constitution.” Ssembuya said before adding., “He reached at the extent of planting Phillip Munaabi, the Manager of his professional boxing company topboy that he is the chairman of Zana Boxing Club, when that failed he tried to bribe the club members with 2 millions to chase me away, but the good thing, the club is now a registered company.
His Kanyamas chased me out of the meeting at Lugogo, just because he developed fears, when did he start poking his nose in the affairs of the club?, Muhangi is putting all those restrictions because he thinks UBF is his personal property.
We shall try to fight for our rights as Boxing family, and if it doesn’t work out, it means Boxing will lose someone who is aiming at it’s development not his personal gains.”
It’s not yet revealed when the elections will take place and whether the amended Constitution, all clubs will abide by it.
