The Drama Continues,SC Villa, Vipers Snub Double Header Pre-Match Conference

The drama surrounding the new-look Uganda Premier League format has deepened after giants SC Villa and Vipers SC did not turn up for the highly anticipated pre-match press conference ahead of the league’s first-ever double header fixtures.

The briefing, held on Saturday morning at Serena Hotel in Kampala, was attended only by KCCA FC and Kitara FC, alongside League Manager Mr. Owori Eric Eron and FUFA 3rd Vice President in charge of clubs, Hon. Nakiwala Florence Kiyingi.

Kitara, KCCA Show Commitment

Kitara, represented by club chairperson ASP Nyaika Gilbert, expressed readiness to host the blockbuster fixtures at the refurbished Namboole Stadium, urging fans to turn up in large numbers.

On their part, KCCA FC—represented by Business Development Manager Joshua Nagenda—vowed to give SC Villa a tough evening. “The visitors should come prepared for showtime,” Nagenda confidently warned.

Growing Defiance in the League

Since FUFA unveiled the controversial new three-round league format, three clubs—SC Villa, Vipers, and NEC—have openly resisted participating until their concerns are fully addressed.

League manager Owori offered little clarity on why Villa and Vipers missed the press briefing, only stressing that fixtures remain binding:

“When the host accepts the venue that we present, it is up to the visitor. He has no option apart from honoring the fixture,” Owori stated.

Crucial Double Header Looms

The double header, scheduled for 4th October at Namboole Stadium, could prove decisive in shaping the fate of the defiant clubs. With Villa, Vipers, and NEC yet to kick a ball in the new format, the upcoming weekend may determine whether their resistance continues—or whether football takes center stage once again.
