Uganda Swimming Federation Elections: Mugisha Vying For Top Seat, aiming at Expanding the Sport Countrywide
The renown swimming coach and experienced administrator, Peter Simon Mugisha to contest for top seat in the forthcoming Uganda Swimming Federation elections.
Mugisha is saying that he is the suitable person to replace former president, Donald Rukare who landed into two fat offices in National Council of Sports (Chairman) and Uganda Olympic Committee as newly elected president.
In an exclusive interview with this website at Kampala, Former Federation’s Secretary General, Peter Simon Mugisha outlined the projects he wants to put in place once he elected the next president come 13th March 2021.
“It’s no longer a rumor, it’s true I want to become USF next president to add a brick on want our former president did to develop the sport.” Peter Simon confirmed to this website yesterday.
Previously and maybe currently at large extent, Swimming is known as a sport for well off category and Urban centred but Peter wants to expand the discipline even to the low profile section and upcountry once he is elected the President.
“I have been doing this for the past many years, trying to expand the game upcountry, but I have been doing that as a mere coach but if I get the supreme powers, then it will be more easier for me to continue doing the same job but this time round with policies.” Mugisha explains.
“I have been of course with the help of federation spreading the sport in Mbarara, Soroti and other upcountry districts.” He continued
As a seasoned coach, Mugisha want to involve coaches the more in the sport, helping them get at another level through refresher courses and get more training such that they can tap more talents when they know the skills they can give them.
“I am a coach, I know the challenges coaches face, and if coaches are not well trained, not well paid, the talent can’t be tapped. Our coaches lack international skills, so in my administration, I want them to be trained because we need to tap more talent.”
Mugisha who is competing against Moses B Mwase, the current president, wants to increase on number of competitions, more grassroots development, including parents into the system since they get attracted to the sport.
Mugisha also wants to see the sport on the top of other sports, and he wants to promote it via media, Simon Peter believes that Football gets sponsors and partners because it occupies the media space.
Briefly who is Peter Simon Mugisha:
Mugisha is a product of 1966, been a swimmer since 1982 to-date, coached the game of swimming since 1996, he became the first general secretary of the federation in 2000 and departed the position after twelve years before elected vice president where he served until 2020.
As a coach he took Uganda in Olympic Games twice in 2004 Greece and 2008 Beijing China.
