Stanbic Uganda Cup: Police Targets League Cup Final as They Meet Adjumani

After failing to return to topflight division come next season, Police FC switched the focus at Stanbic Uganda Cup final.

Police are in one goal advantage of semifinal and they will be visiting Adjumani FC on Tuesday in Adjumani as they will be fighting for a slot in the 49th edition of the tournament.

The Cops beat Adjumani 1-0 in the first leg held a week back at Kavumba Recreation center in Wakiso.

With the second leg slated for Friday in Adjumani, the final is in sight for Police FC, who will meet either Vipers SC or Soltilo Bright Stars, should they advance.

Police head coach Angelo Lonyesi is confident and believes his team will be crowned the champions his year in Lira.

“If we win or draw tomorrow, we shall qualify for the final and let me assure you, the moment we reach the final we shall have the advantage,” he told the press on Thursday ahead of the showdown.

“We shall be on a neutral ground and I’m sure Vipers are already through, they are used to playing on the carpet (artificial turf),” he added with a filled confidence.

“They are not used to playing on grass (natural grass) field (pitch), and as soon as we go through, please be assured Police have taken the trophy.”

“Our stumbling block is only Adjumani tomorrow,” Lonyesi added in assertion.

Police is in search of their maiden Uganda Cup, having the final twice in 2002/03 and 2000 when they lost 3-1 and 1-0 to Express FC and SC Villa, respectively.

Vipers another side looking for a double this season, holds a huge 4-0 advantage over the Stars, and are all but sure of playing in the final slated for the Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium in Lira.
