Rotary 5-Aside Football Tournament: Centenary Wins Corporate Trophy as Nakasero Central Dethrones Kampala Sunshine

The 2024 Rotary 5-Aside Football tournament that is aimed at fundraising money to change the lives of vulnerable people in Uganda has climaxed on Saturday at Phillip Omondi Stadium Lugogo. 

The 8th edition that has attracted over 60 teams had three competitions in one, from Rotary clubs championship, the rotaract and the corporate section. 

Nakasero Central Rotary club crowned the champions of the 2024 edition after beating Kampala Ssese 2-0 in an epic final held in the evening of Saturday. 

Nakasero dethroned, Kampala Sunshine who were the winners of the 2023 edition, they have won 5 million shillings that they will use to support the vulnerable persons in their communities. 

The first runners up, Kampala Ssese walked home with 3 million shillings while Nansana who won the bronze went home with two million shillings. And the money shall be used in rotary club service projects. 

In Rotaract category, Kololo Rotaract club thumped the defending champions, Bwoyogera 4-0 on final to lift the trophy and walk home with 2.5 million Shillings while the losing finalists took 1.5M. 

In the corporate category, Centenary Bank crowned the champions of the Corporate championship, they beat Leshego 1-0 in the final watched by many. 

Centenary won three million shillings while Leshego took home two million shillings. 

This championship is played every year and the rotary clubs participate in this championship with the aim of networking, sharing ideas and creating friendships. 

This year’s edition was organised by the Rotary club of Kiwatula and Obal Atubo was the chairperson organising committee that tirelessly made sure that the event is a success.
