FT: MUST 1-1 MUBS

Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) held the two time champions, Makerere University Business School in a one all surprise draw on Wednesday afternoon at MUST grounds in Mbarara.

Atuhire Emmanuel goal long range strike that handed MUST a lead in the 5th minute of second stanza was cancelled by Mbabazi Worrick Joe half volley in the last ten minutes of second half for the two sides to share points.

Atuhire capitalized on MUBS custodian Ayebare Innocent Hillary blunder to give MUST a lead with a rebound from the centre and sent the science and technology students into crazy celebrations.

In the last 30 minutes of the game, the visitors kept on knocking until until they won a corner kick in the 78th minute.

Mbabazi Joe Worrick levelled matters for MUBS off Joshua Biyinzika’s assist in the 79th minute and changed the readings on the score board.

For not winning the game they expected to be a must win on the road, Otuke Derrick, MUBS skipper accepted that its them to blame for not taking three points back to Nakawa.

“It has been a hard one, we can’t blame anyone, we have ourselves to blame, I think we made a lot of errors as a team, so the only thing we can do is to go home and make corrections, we wait for the next game and see, we can get the maximum points.” Said Otuke Derrick, MUBS- captain.

However, MUST’s skipper, Orebe Jacob asserted that it’s inexperience in the league that has denied them to secure the three points at home because they had the lead until the last quarter of the game.

“Most of us are freshers (first year students), we didn’t have enough experience because we are from playing post primary so we had to settle later as we look forward to winning this match but actually the result was not good for my side because we have conceded late, there was more of a defensive error but, we’re going to develop strength time and again as we prepare for the other games that are yet to come.” Obere Jacob, MUST captain.

A point apiece means that MUST and MUBS are tied at the summit of  Group F after one game while new entrants Muteesa 1 Royal University are yet to play.

Two-time champions Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) will begin their 2024/25 campaign on Thursday, September 26 against Muni University in Nkozi at 3pm.
