Kampala University used it’s pedigree and experience in Pepsi University Football League to beat improving newbies ISBAT University 2-0 in the a rain disrupted encounter honored at YMCA Buwambo Campus playground on Wednesday.
Through Ndase Tony and workaholic Mulamba Abbey, Kampala University secured their second win of the season.
The two time league champions, Kampala University got a lead as early as 23 minutes, it was Ndase Tony with a bouncing header that beating Kakumirizi Daniel, ISBAT University custodian, thanks to Ategeka Fred well laid cross from the right flank.
But before conceding, ISBAT had an improved display compared to that of their first game in the league.
Like Mike Mutebi, after conceding, ISBAT continued to play their way and in the last ten minutes of the first stanza, the Science Business and Technology students gotten a chance to level the game through Tumukunde Joshua powerful shot but Ozelle Brian was in right position to make a classic save to keep his side in the lead.
Ten minutes into second half, with solely Mulamba Abbey punished the hosts who’s defense recklessly lost the possession in the danger area, with a scorcher, the workaholic Mulamba stretched the lead for the visitors.
At the time they pilled pressure to get the consolation and maybe the equalizer, the weather changed and it started raining from the 60th minute, it almost rained for 25 minutes and disrupted the flair play of the hosts since the playing surface became waterlogged.
Kampala University contained the game to the final whistle and walked away with maximum points.
The 2013 and 2016 champions, maintained their lead on top of group F table with six points in two games.
International Science, Business and Technology University (ISBAT) still on bottom of the table with no point.
The group has three teams and only one qualifies to quarter finals.
Coaches’ reactions:
“We have tried to do what we are supposed to do with our coaching staff, of course there are some challenges we have observed especially in the midfield, because in the midfield you have to build, so we need to improve on the midfield otherwise, players have tried to do what they are supposed to do in terms of implementing the principles in different departments.”
“About my opponent, I want to thank them also, because you have seen they have tried to posse the game, in the midfield they had that jersey ten, I think he is their captain, he looked good, their defense was good working as a team, they are new in the league, they are promising and I think if they go like that they are going to be another problem in this league.” Said Vicent Tumusiime aka Titi Camara, Kampala University head Coach.
ISBAT University head Coach had this to comment about the performance of his players;
“The boys really worked on our weaknesses in our first game we had in Mbarara, today they worked so hard , they literally had the chance to win but they are lacking that more Technical skill of putting the ball in the net, so we are going to work on our finishing and expecting better results in the next games.
I am seeing an improvement, one first game was 3-1, this one is 2-0, which means we’re really progressing, so of we are given time we can really make.” Awumba Edwin Raston, ISBAT tactician.
The league resumes tomorrow Thursday as St Lawrence University will be hosting Gulu University at Kavule in Mpigi
