Pepsi UFL: Wasswa Abdu Stars as KIU Collect Maximum Points off Kumi

After losing their opening fixture of Pepsi University Football League, Kampala International University came to winning ways with a 2-0 victory at home against Kumi University on Saturday afternoon.
Ssempijja Henry and Wasswa Abdu scored in both halves to hand two important goals to Akabwai boys to secure maximum points.
In the game that was honored at Kirombe playground-Kampala, Wasswa Abdu looked so exceptional after appearing on the score sheet as well as assisting Ssempijja Henry to have his own.
Ssempijja got KIU’s lead in the 25th minute following a simple tap in, thanks to Wasswa Abdu well laid cross from the right flank.
15 minutes into second half, with sole effort, Wasswa Abdu stretched the lead for KIU with a far post strike, the pacey forward left Kumi’s back on ground to find the back of the net.
The win moved KIU to three points squaring with Busitema University who were humiliated by UCU at Mukono early this week.
Following the victory, Geoffrey Akabwai expressed his satisfaction that his team adhered to the game plan that led to their success.
“I am pleased with our first win of the season, we made efforts to rectify our previous mistakes, seizing the perfect opportunity to do so,” Akabwai conveyed to the media.
A collective team effort was pivotal, and for the past two weeks, our training focused on becoming a formidable offensive force, resulting in two goals.”
Akabwai added: “Our disappointment in the previous game against Busitema motivated us to come prepared for this match, and that’s how we secured the win.”
Uganda Christian University still tops group D with six points in two games, Kampala International University second with three points square with Busitema but with better goal advantage, Kumi on bottom of the table with no point and zero goals, conceded four so far.
The league will rest for two days before it resumes on Tuesday when International University of East Africa will be hosting Nkumba at Kirombe playground-Kampala.
