Pepsi UFL: ‘Villagers Can’t Boss in the City’, Kampala University Proves it against Ndejje at Kibuli
The Mayanja Said’s late penalty helped Kampala University to return to winning ways with a 2-1 hard fought victory against village boys, Ndejje University in the Pepsi University League encounter honored at Kibuli Dem on Tuesday afternoon.
The Beach Boys, goals came from Lakomakech Bill and Mayanja Said while that of Ndejje University was scored by Kitala Daniel.
Coming with a 1-0 win from their opening fixture against Gulu University, Ndejje University played like winners and the opening quarter, the ball was in their possession with some goal scoring chances though KU’s goalie, Kasumba stood tall to keep his side in the game.
But when the game kept on growing, the ‘technical tactical’ Vicent Tumusiime’s boys started gaining momentum though the first stanza ended in a barren draw.
To prove their seriousness, only nine minutes into the second stanza, with a good tap in, Lakomakech Bill handed a deserved lead to Kampala University.
They tried to press Ndejje for double but they never achieved it, however, Ndejje through speed merchant, Kitala Daniel leveled the matters nine minutes to final whistle.
It could be a point gained for the visitors but into the first minute of the added three, Ndejje defender Muyanja Hassan fouled KU’s forward,Wanume Gilbert in the forbidden area for center referee, Kasalirwe Lucky to point at the spot and was calmly converted by Mayanja Said to send KU fans in late hour crazy celebrations.
The victory brought back the two time Champions hopes of getting out the group alive.
“Technically, tactically my players played well, this time round we used more of wings, that’s why even our goal came from the wings, we lost the game against Gulu, we never lost hope, we went back and corrected our errors, that’s why you see a win today and I thanks my boys, and technical team, because I don’t do this work alone.” Said Coach Vicent Tumusiime aka Titi Kamala.
Ssekago Musa, Ndejje University’s tactician who wasn’t happy with the performance of the referee especially the goal he awarding in the dying minutes, asserted that he is convinced with the display of his boys, despite the loss.
“The referee wasn’t good enough, he made some errors, like the penalty he awarded but that’s football.
However, it’s not the result we wanted but I am happy with the performance of my players, it’s a new team, most of them are year one and two, they have never played in this league before.” Says Ssekago Musa.
Action in the Pepsi University Football League continues on Thursday when Bugema University will ve hosting Islamic University In Uganda.
