NUVA Launches National Referees Training Course in Lira
The Northern Uganda Volleyball Association (NUVA), in partnership with the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF), has opened the 2026 National Referees Training Course in Lira City.
The three-day course, which runs from August 11 to 13, is being held at Coronation Park and has attracted 32 participants from Lango, Acholi, Karamoja, Buganda and the media fraternity.
The training is being facilitated by FIVB International Referee Innocent Komakech, who is leading participants through both theoretical and practical sessions.
NUVA chairperson Daniel Okwee officially opened the course and welcomed the participants and facilitators.
Okwee said the training was an important step towards rebuilding and strengthening volleyball in Northern Uganda.
“We are excited to host this very important course as we start to rebuild volleyball in the region. With this course, all of you have begun a journey to becoming FIVB International Referees,” Okwee said.
He emphasised the importance of quality officiating in the development of volleyball in the region and urged participants to take the training seriously.
At the conclusion of the course, participants will sit a written examination. Those who successfully complete the assessment will be certified to officiate NUVA- and UVF-sanctioned matches during the 2026/27 season.
The course is part of efforts to strengthen the officiating structure and develop volleyball capacity in Northern Uganda.
