Pepsi UFL: ‘Leave football alone, go enjoy Wandegeya Chicken’, UCU Put’s a stop at Makerere’s Title hopes

Quarter Final Second leg results: 

Uganda Christian University 1-0 Makerere University [agg 2-2] 

The 2019 champions, Uganda Christian University, progressed to the semifinals of the Pepsi University Football League. 

The Mukono based varsity, beat the ‘Weewe’ boys, 1-0 to propel to next level with an away goals advantage. 

The only goal that pushed Jimmy Kintu boys to semis was scored by pacy winger, Isaac Ofoyrwoth in the third minute of second half.

Coming with a goal advantage in second leg following a 2-1 win at home, Makerere University started so defensive, protecting their lead and the strategy worked very well in the first stanza, denying UCU to penetrate through the solid midfield. 

However, three minutes into second half, A bit Harry stole the ball off the reckless defender, hit the ball at the back of the net forcing Wejuli Joel to make a save but Isaac Ofoyrwoth had a rebound that finally hit the back of the net to put UCU’s fans into cray celebrations. 

For the first time in at least two years, the stadium was full with the fans and the rumor had it that the lecturers for the first time put a pose to classes and gave a chance to students to give support to their football team. 

Through Tenywa Derrick, UCU found the back of the net in the dying minutes however, the second assistant referee called it offside.

In both ties against the two giants, Geofrey Gagganga, UCU’s skipper continued to show that he is an exceptional player. 

The Tactician of the winning team, Jimmy Kintu accepted that they came knowing that the game won’t be easy for them but that the full plan for it. 

“Surely it has been a good game, we expected it to be tough, we expected the environment to be a bit different because of the fans, the tension due to the fact that we lost away, we had to be very conscious, again we had to think about scoring, so putting all those things together, we knew that the game wasn’t going to be easy but we prepared for everything.” Said UCU Tactician, Jimmy Kintu. 

Wesonga John Collins, who had a good day in the goal posts revealed that knockout stage has another feel and they are to work harder come next level.

“Of course every game comes with a different test, the test of the group stage is not the same as that of the quarter final, we expected the hurdle was going to be a little bit harder, so I think we need to train harder as we’re going to the next level.” Says Wesonga John Collins, UCU custodian. 

The league will continue next week with MUBS taking on Bugema University.
