Ogwel in Hot Soup as UNF President Point Blank Pins Him For Crippling the Growth of Sports Federations in the Country
National Council of Sports through it’s General Secretary, Dr. Ogwel Patrick forced the Uganda Netball Federation to stop it’s activities with immediate effect untill their Annual General Assembly is done in February 25, 2025.
This came after the three banned and suspended executive members of UNF, in Yahaya Ssengabi (Publicity Secretary), Aminah Mande (General Secretary) and Richard Muhumuza (Vice president technical) wrote to National Council of Sports informing them that the all working Committees are acting illegally because they were not approved by the AGM of the federation.
This decision of stopping especially the two Leagues for male and female whose second round had just threw off two weeks back prompted the furious UNF President, Hon Babirye Kityo Sarah to seek for help and guidance from his fellow federations and Associations presidents, this is according to linked audios.
“I would like you to help me discuss about this, such that I pick a relief because all along I was handling this as a person but tonight God revealed a very big issue that I would like to share with you and then you guide me. ” The audio starts.
Members I have been wondering who is the enemy of Uganda federations, until we identify that enemy and we talk about that problem and finally resolve it, we are in a very big problem, to me people are supposed to be supervising us and take a good care of us, are the people who are part of the challenges we are facing…. “
” Am going to keep some of the information for myself until the right time when I bring some of the evidence, but this is what I want to reach out to. All the mess that is taking place in Netball Federation is fuelled by Dr. Ogwel, yes! I don’t know whether there other people, I don’t want to lie against Dr. Rukare or other members but I want to pin Dr. Ogwel and am pinning him, we had rumors that these people [banned] have been going to his office they claim to be planning with him but never called me to tell me this is what is going on, yesterday NCS summoned us, we discussed on a number of issues…. “
The former Youth Member of Parliament asked herself why now Ogwel is rushing into the matters of the federation when he took his time to let Former president, Suzan Anek to handover Office even when it deemed necessary for better preparations. She also asked herself why Dr. Ogwel always hold meetings with Anek before calling them, and what was the reason behind Ogwel blackmailing her before the Africa Netball Federation as a bad leader.
Babirye Continues to claim that Ogwel never wanted the federation to acquire assistance from other sources and was very mad when Babirye got contribution from the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among.
“…..what’s wrong if I go to National Council of Sports, I sit with Dr. Ogwel and he tell me that this is what we can afford, and it’s not enough to cater for our issues and I look for other avenue, I am a Ugandan, I am entitled to bring government on board, if President Museveni, or minister contribute, the other time we went to Parliament and it gave us contribution, Dr. Ogwel was mad about it, he was very bitter about it, what’s wrong with that, want to be educated, I want Dr. Ogwel to tell me what have I done wrong. “
The furious Babirye reached at the extent of asking the role of Dr. Ogwel in National Council, whether to help the federations grow or to cripple them.
“Can you imagine, NCS is telling us to stop the leagues! When they are well aware that we are having commonwealth games in July, east Africa Championship in April, and the league is the cheapest way to keep these girls fit, we having male Championship in March and the governing body that is supposed to help us run everything is telling us to stop the leagues, are we helping the game grow or very technical to serve our personal interests. “

For starters, Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel was the manager of Akol FC the side that lost to Sports Club Villa 22-0 encounter held at Mandela National Stadium in early 2000s, one of the biggest Football scandals in Ugandan football, and that was among the game the chased most of the fans out of the game.
