Now You’re free to Study, Details of When All Students Return To School Revealed

Finally the government of Uganda under Ministry of Education and Sports allowed students and pupils to return to school after almost a full year of no schooling.

After the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda, the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ordered all schools to close on March 18th 2020, since then, it’s only the candidate classes students allowed to reopen for studies in October.

But since then, parents have been demanding government to allow their children to return to school, not to lose their academic year. And after endless meetings, with president, the ministry of education and Sports Minister, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni on Friday 05, February, 2021 ordered Ministry’s permanent secretary, Alex Kakooza to release details on when and how the none candidate classes will resume studies for the academic year 2020.

“In the statement the Hon. Minister (released to media on Friday 5, Feb), guided that the permanent secretary Ministry of Education and Sports will issue a detailed calender indicating the dates when all other classes will report back to school.” A letter dated 09, February 2021 read in parts.

According the circular released and sent to vice chancellors, Directors of Schools, District officers, and all education concerned parties, non candidate classes resume on 1St March, 2021 and the 2020 academy calender of primary schools, secondary and post primary education institutions end in July.

1. P6,S3 and S5 report back on 1st March 2021 and close on 21st May.

2. P4, P5 returns on 6th April and end on 4 June

P1, P2, P3 report back on 7, June and will end on 24th July 2021.

S1 report back on on 12th April and study for 14 weeks, ending on 3rd July.

S2 will report back on 31st May 2021 after S3 and S5 classes break off, ending on 24th July 2021.

Vocational schools, PTC will return on 1st March.

However, according to letter, schools must open after obtaining written permission on an individual basis from permanent secretary on recommendation of the Director Basic and secondary education on director Higher, Technical and vocational education and training.

The academic year for 2020 will end in July 2021 as the ministry comprehend on the 2021 calender.
