Wednesday 30th December 2020 will remain in history of boxing in Uganda as a dark day that took away legend, Zebra Mando Isaac Ssenyange in a brutal manner.

On that day, gunmen to whom later the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni identified as security officers, brutally murdered Zebra Mando with gun shots at him home in Bwaise, a Kampala suburb.

Since the President via the end of year nation address speech conceded and confirmed that his Security gunned down, a boxer, the boxing fraternity in Uganda spearheaded by the Uganda Boxing Federation president, Moses Muhangi tasked President Museveni to bring those people who killed Mando to books because he needs justice.

In the press briefing held at Kati Kati restaurant Lugogo on Saturday, the boxing federation president thanked President Museveni for immediately picking interest in the murder of Zebra because it prevented the allegations that would be circulating even now about who killed him and why.

We were all asking ourselves so many questions until in the evening of 31st December, the President came out and made a statement and he made it clear that was aware of the people who killed Zebra Mando, he said it was a military operation. He said he is investigating to get to the bottom of the situation.” Moses Muhangi speaking.

So that meant that all our questions have been partially answered because he said; I know those who killed him but am still investigating to get more information.” Muhangi added.

We thank him for quick intervention he made, maybe if he didn’t make it we would be second-guessing on who killed zebra.”

Now the fraternity is seeking for justice on the matters of Zebra mando killing and assurance from the president that such incidents will not continue happening especially on boxers.

“What President didn’t hit about is the issues to do with justice that we expect for the passing of Mando because if you say that you know who killed him, then what actions are going to be taken on all those individuals. So we expect justice, we expect transparency on how these matters are going to be handled.”

“We expect as a federation how we are going to be assured that we are safe because boxers countryside are calling me, that what do we do, should we go back and train or we are also going to be a target, all boxers and coaches are living under extreme fear, they don’t know what will happen in the next morning.” Muhangi.

He also said that all the federation activities were put to hold because they are living in fear, by this month they would be preparing for National trials.
