Netball Super League: Namulumba Sets Fresh Targets as Second Round Throws Off
Clubs, coaches and players set targets before the season’s throw off, some get achieved while others fail.
Into her second season in the Uganda Netball Super League as Prisons Netball Club shooter, Namulumba Christine Kango sets fresh targets before the second round resumes on Saturday.
For starters, the 6.02ft shooter is the leading top scorer and has 430 goals on her name.
Speaking to this website before their opening fixture against Police Netball Club on Saturday, Namulumba revealed that she is set for second round and she is working upon scoring more than 700 goals in second round and she has discovered the medicine that will cure her low scoring rate.
“This time round I want 700 Plus goals because even the people behind me also want the top scorers’ gong so that means I have to double the effort.” Said Lanky shooter Namulumba Christine.
Despite her height advantage against the league defenders, Namulumba’s shooting accuracy has been that not above 90% in most of the games in first round though she had improvement compared to her last season’s performance. With that shooting challenge, Kango revealed to this website that she has discovered the solution for it.
“To my own observations, most of the times when I get the ball and rush to shoot I always miss it out, so this time I need to get a ball and relax then shoot without pressure, I believe that will help me to improve because I also evaluate my performance and try to find a solution to see that I keep improving every now and then.” Namulumba
“Yes, I do personal training, at least I make 200 plus shots everyday before we start team training, I do that to get used with shooting.
Namulumba Christine with 430 goals is in contest with other shooters, the likes of NIC’s Sera Zam (384), Namukose Specioza of Police NC with 345 and Busia Greater Lions’ Charity Cinderella who netted 337 in first round.
Last season the gong was won by Weyonje’s shooter, Kabendela Asinah who netted 854 goals but this season, she is still in fifth position according to rankings, the workaholic and Weyonje darling has 319 goals, 111 behind table leader.
The league resumes on Saturday at Luzira Prisons Netball Courts with five fixtures.
