Netball League: NIC Beat Prison as Weyonje Wins The City Cleaners’ Battle By Whisker
The Uganda National Netball Super League has been in hibernation for almost four months but the 2021 season has finally returned with three games on card.
The an entertaining day at Weyonje Grounds-Kibuli had three games and they graced by Hon. Nantongo Margret Zziwa who was the guest of honor.
KBK and Police Netball Club was the first game at Weyonje Grounds and Police took the day by beating the opponent 57-24.
The battle of the City Cleaners, Weyonje and KCCA NC came on at the afternoon and it was one of the joy to watch encourage on the return of the league, they were neck to neck untill the final whistle but only seconds to fulltime, Weyonje’s Goal Shooter, Asinah Kabendela separated the tie and the game ended 40-39.
The last game of the day was between the two league giants, NIC and Prisons NC. At the end of the day, NIC extended their unbeaten run to two games with a 47-40 win on the Day.
This result keeps NIc on top of the table of ten teams with four points.
Coaches’ Reactions
KCCA’s tactician, Fred Mugerwa asserted that they didn’t lose the game because their opponent was superior but put the blame on internal challenges.
“I think the internal problems have costed us this game I can say, but before next game we shall produce the best results and by then hope the problem will be solved.
Our opponents were not so special, but the game was balanced and it could go either way.” Fred Mugerwa.
Vicent Kiwanuka, the Head Coach, National Insurance Corporation Netball Club was with the win despite the fact he was with not his team for at least one and half month.
“I am happy for the win, I wasn’t with my team for one and half month, but we managed to beat Prison, it’s the team the we give respect the most in this league but winning them clears our chances to lift the league’s title again.” Vicent Kiwanuka.
His counterpart, Prison’s tactician, Imelda Nyongesa conceded the defeat but was not convinced with the performance of the Umpires.
“I lost the game against NIC but wasn’t convinced with the performance of our Umpires, am not saying this because I have lost but something was lacking.”
The league will bounce back on Wednesday with four games on different grounds.
