Netball International Test Series: Mwase’s She Cranes Fall to 9th Placed Wales

Wales 57-45 Uganda
The Uganda Netball national team, the She Cranes lost it’s first international game 57-45 against Wales since the Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah Executive was forcefully chased out of the office.
The team had it’s first international outing under the control of the Normalization Committee which is under the leadership of the Uganda Olympic Committee assistant general secretary Moses Mwase.
The national team that arrived yesterday in United Kingdom in two batches had it’s first game out of the three test games against Wales on Wednesday night at House of Sports and lost it by a difference of 12 goals, the worst since 2022 Vitality International Series where Uganda lost against 3rd World’s best, England Roses with a difference of 13 goals [64-51].
Welsh Feathers had the control of the game from the first to the last quarter.
Winning first quarter 14 to 12, continued with the same performance, netting 13 goals against the 11 from Uganda in the second quarter.
In the last two quarters, Welsh Feathers looked more superior, scoring 30 goals, 15 from each quarter and Uganda maintained the 11 goals score line for three quarters. [14-12,27-23,42-34,57-45].
She Cranes defender, Falidah Kadodi, in her post match interview, she revealed that Wales was playing a contest game and they realized it late but promised to bounce back stronger in their next game on Friday at the same Arena and time.
“It wasn’t really hard, like you say but it was just a contest game but we got to realize the umpires are calling a contest game when it’s already late for us but we hope, the next game we’re coming back better, we have to do our best, we hope to rectify our game and hope to do the best.”, Says Falidah Kadodi after the first game.
Though he accepted that his team played badly, Mugerwa Fred Tabale shifted some blame to Umpires, asserting that they manufactured some fouls which has also costed his team.
“We played badly on our side, but I would say there were some certain calls that I am not satisfied with and I think that one demoralized the girls, I think some fouls were been manufactured by the umpires but generally we played also badly and we have to rectify on the two remaining games.” Mugerwa Fred.
For starters, Uganda is two places ranked better to Wales, the Pearl of Africa is in 7th place while Wales sit 9th according to current World Netball rankings that were released in December last year.
Previously Uganda has been giant against Wales and in the last three meetings, Uganda has been unbeaten.
In World Cup 2023 in South Africa, Uganda convincing beat Wales 73-56.
In 2022 October Wales International Series, Uganda won the two ties, 47-56 and 46-64 respectively.
The two sides will be meeting again on Friday and Saturday at the same venue before Uganda heads to London for Netball Nations Cup.
