Misindye Mpoma Crowned Champions As Kakembo Memorial Cup Climaxes
Mukono: The first edition of Kakembo Memorial Cup the commenced in early February, this year finally climaxed on Sunday, 28, 2021 at Paul Mukasa Sports Ground, Bajjo- Mukono.
The Mukono DFA, fourth division side, Misindye Mpoma crowned the champions of inaugural tourney put in place in remembrance of football giant, Kakembo Edward who died late last year.
Mpoma to wore the Victor’s crown, firdt beat Gaddafi FC 4-3 via spot kicks, following a barren stalemate in open play.
“We are honoured and privileged to have organized one of the most successful tournaments in our community.
The one month tournament was organized in honour and remembrance of departed sports personalities who made great contribution to sports within our community the most recent to depart being the late Kakembo Edward.
The Committee extends its sincere appreciation to different individuals and entities that supported it to organise one of the most successful tournaments within our community. Special thanks go to the; Participating teams,Referees, Owners of the fields that were used, Sponsors, Donors, Fans, Media, Families of our departed sports personalities, Service providers
We ask for forgiveness where things didn’t go well. We promise to consolidate what we did well and improve where we didn’t do well in the second edition.
Once again thank you very much and we ask for your total support in the next edition., Mutono David Katono, Chairman Organizing Committee gave his speech after a successful tourney.
In the same sentiment, the vision bearer and the Mukono DFA aspiring Chairman, Mahadi Gaddafi Kivumbi thanked all those who have been with them to make the tournament a success.
Misindye Mpoma as the winner, walked away with a live bull, certificate, gold medals and a Trophy. While Gaddafi received a goat, silver medals and a certificate.
Most Valuable Player of the tournament, Donge Joseph came from Gaddafi FC and he received a boot as well as the Top scorer Ssentongo Hassan from Misindye Mpoma. The best goalkeeper was Nsubuga Swalic from Gaddafi FC.
And the fair play award went to Kiko Young FC.
Nineteen teams took part in the inaugural tournament.
