Masaza Cup2020: Bugerere Painfully Lost its Target, Buddu, Gomba storm Semifinal

The most successful County in Buganda Masaza Cup tourney, Gomba Lions cut short Bugerere’s dream of lifting the maiden title of the most prestigious football tournament in Uganda after eliminating them at quarter final round.

While entering the 2020 scientific Masaza Cup edition, Bugerere’s sole target was the win the title but their journey to glory ended at quarter final level when the four time cup winners, Gomba lions, leapfrog to beat them 2-1 in an encounter enjoyed at FUFA Technical Centre Njeru on Tuesday afternoon.

Kiberu Tony first gave hope to Bugerere when put the ball at the back of Gomba’s net four minutes to half time following error made by the Lions’ defenders at the edge of the 18yards box. And the first stanza ended when Andy Ssali’s boys are in driving seat.

However,the tournament’s top scorer (7goals) Bbaale Charles cancelled Bugerere’ uncomfortable lead with an in swinging corner kick that entered direct into the net in the 60th minute before he repeated the same technique five minutes later for Gomba to grab the lead and eventually a sweet win.

Meanwhile in the last quarter final match, the 2016 champions Buddu, through hardships, beat the three time champions, Mawokota, 2-0 also to book a meeting with Buleemezi at semifinals.

Buddu’s goals came in the last seven minutes of the game and scored by Farouk Ssekayi and Marvin Kavuma in 83rd and 90+2 minutes respectively.

It’s now confirmed, Gomba are meeting Busiro at semifinal while Buddu will lock horns with reigning champions, Buleemezi.
