Masaza Cup 2021: Kyadondo Made Great Error to Bounce Back, Buddu Proves it As Buwekula Storm Semis

Maybe it wasn’t right time for Kyadondo to reach knockout stages of this year’s Masaza Cup edition despite they forced themselves back in the race through boardroom decision.

The 2016 Champions, Buddu Ssaza proved it with a 2-1 victory in a quarter final encounter honored on Monday afternoon at FUFA Technical Center Njeru.

The first 40 minutes, the game looked more balanced with end to end game display but in the last five minutes of the first stanza, Kyadondo who bounced back in the race after winning the appeal case against their player, Edirisa Kasirye a bit relaxed and gave Geofrey Gaggaga to head Buddu upfront with a simple header at the 42nd minute.

The George Lutalo boys, controlled the game, maintaining themselves in the lead as the minutes kept on moving, limited chances of scoring Kyadondo got in both halves.

The goal poacher, Bruno Bunyaga, though he was beautifully contained by the 2008 Champions defense, but in the 75th minute, he had to punish them with a tap in, converting from a free kick set from the right flank and he gave Buddu a comfortable lead with 15 minutes on the clock and moved his tally to five goals. 

Kyadondo got a consolation in the 85th minute through Patrick Oyeeti but wasn’t enough to rescue his side.

This meant that Buddu became the second team to reach semifinals of the 2021 Masaza Cup edition following Buwekula who beat Buluuli 3-0 in the first quarter final of the day.

The goals that took Buwekula to semifinals came from Ismail Tamubula who netted his in 4th and 37th minutes, the skipper also appeared on the score sheet in the 25th minute. In summary, the work done is the first stanza.

There are two remaining fixtures at this level, and Kyaggwe Ssaza will be taking on Mawokota while Busiro and Bulemeezi will be fight for the remaining slot.
