Masaka Tour: Meywa Leans on Eng. Ben Misagga Support in Bid to Unseat Mandela at SC Villa
Meywa Farouq has stepped up his campaign for the top seat at Sports Club Villa, pitching camp in Masaka over the weekend and unveiling what he described as solid backing from former club president Eng. Ben Misagga.
On Saturday, Meywa, accompanied by his campaign team dubbed Team Bikolwa, met SC Villa supporters at Ssenyange Gardens in Masaka, where he urged fans to rally behind his bid to take over leadership of Uganda’s most decorated football club.
The Masaka tour followed the launch of Meywa’s manifesto earlier this week in Kampala, where he outlined his vision for SC Villa ahead of elections scheduled for March 2026.
Addressing a charged gathering, Meywa asserted that Eng. Ben Misagga—credited with strengthening Villa’s presence in Masaka during his tenure—is firmly behind his candidacy.
“For all along, you couldn’t speak about Masaka and not mention Villa,” Meywa said.
“My brother Eng. Ben Misagga brought Villa here, but instead of supporting him, some people fought him. He only needed guidance, and I am happy to inform you that he is with us and supports this cause. He wants Villa back in the right hands.”
Meywa also aimed a dig at his main rival, incumbent SC Villa president Hajji Omar Mandela, questioning the sustainability of what he termed “business money” in Ugandan football.
“Football doesn’t survive on business money,” Meywa said. “It needs dealers like us who can raise one billion shillings instantly and invest heavily in the game. We can’t wait for someone to sell maize flour or oil before financing football.”
On fan engagement, Meywa urged supporters in Masaka to push for online registration, arguing it would ease participation and cut costs.
“It costs UGX 50,000 just to travel to Kampala for registration,” he said. “With online registration, you save that money. Your job is to demand it; my job is to pay for your registration.”
SC Villa is expected to elect a new executive in March 2026, with campaigns now gathering pace as contenders take their message to Villa strongholds across the country.
