Kayunga: Bbaale Constituency MP, Tebandeke Swears in, Vows To Bring Back 2018 Sugar Bill
The Bbaale Constituency newly elected Member of Parliament, Hon. Charles Tebandeke was among the members who sworn in yesterday at Parliament- Kampala.
Immediately after swearing in, the outspoken legislator revealed the main items he is to handle in Parliament for the good of people of his constituency and Uganda at large.
The main two issues, Tebandeke commented about are; the bring back the Sugar cane bill (now act) an the construction of roads the sitting government has been promising the people of Kayunga and Bbaale Constituency in particular.
“The sugar cane bill need to be amended, there are items they forgot to put in that bill in 2018, actually I am going to be on frontline in amending that bill not only for people Bbaale but also Uganda at large. Our children who work in those factories, sugarcane shambas are exploited, work as slaves and indeed they are paid very little,a kid getting 3000,4000/- as wage, that is not good. In fact even the Investment act need to change. These investors, president keeps on inviting, the government should put strong conditions on them to see that even our country and people gain.” Tebandeke said.
Parliament passed the Sugar Bill, 2016 in November last year. The Bill sought to provide for the development, regulation and promotion of the sugar industry to ensure that there is sustainable, diversified, harmonized, modern and competitive sugar sector.
“Everything here can grow easily except that we have been lagging behind because of politics of identity and primitive farming methods based on a subsistence way of life. With some sensitization now, Ugandans are waking up and so we are able to have a surplus,” Museveni said while signing the Sugar bill in April 2020.
In the same line, Tebandeke commented about the Bbaale-Kayunga main road the government has been promising to construction, The legislator asked Uganda National Roads Authority, (UNRA) to construction that road.
“It has been in sitting government manifesto for a while, the people of Bbaale were valued but untill now, nothing they have done but I ask UNRA to come out with suggestive remedy for this road.“
