It’s Like Your Fitness is Lacking, Cricket Cranes Hire Express’ Strength and Conditioning Trainer
With less than three weeks to the Tour of Namibia, Cricket Cranes coach Laurence Mahatlane has bolstered his training sessions by acquiring the services of renowned Strength & Conditioning Coach Helen Buteme.
The former Lady Rugby Cranes captain put in intense shift with the boys to start up things and will have another three sessions before they depart for Windhoek where they are scheduled to play Three T20s and Two Limited Overs (50 overs) game between April 2-11.
“I was asked by the head coach to come and help with the strength and conditioning. Laurence thought I would be able to add something to the Cricket Cranes, he wants them to be faster and stronger.”
“Its an interesting challenge since I don’t know anything about Cricket but at the end of the day conditioning is conditioning and it’s a matter of getting the players to the best and deliver on the pitch” said Buteme.
The team shall camp in a bio-bubble from March 29, 2021.
Earlier this month, former Cricket Cranes wicket-keeper batsman Lawrence Ssematimba officially started work as the Uganda A coach. He works alongside coach Mahatlane and assistant coach Jackson Ogwang.
- He will handle the players that don’t make the 14-man team to Windhoek.
“I am proud thematic I am a coach for Team A, in my career, I have been playing for Uganda for almost sixteen years.
I picked up some experience to which I want to give to boys such that they enjoy Cricket like me.” The newly appointed coach, Lawrence Ssrmatimba said to this website.
About becoming a coach to players he has been enjoying the game with at National team, Ssematimba said that it’s only discipline that can manage any player and any one with out it he can’t go far.
“To manage players, it’s all about discipline, if you don’t have it, you can’t go far.”
The Cricket Cranes are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to stay atop the log ahead of their trip to Jersey for the ICC World Cricket Challenge League B in September 2021.
On the day; Dinesh Nakrani and Ronak Patel met coach Mahatlane for the first time after flying in from India with the post Covid-19 era travel restrictions relaxed.
