The Inspector General of Government, (IGG) Hon. Betty Kamya digs deep into the core of Uganda sports problem and the nation is optimistic and have much hope in her report that is yet to be released.

For starters, the Uganda sports problems have been and are generated by the officials at the helm of the sector who turned Untouchables and even the recent and past sports ministers seemed to have failed uprooting them off their seats.

One would be happy that the government found it wise to set up a full council to run, guide and regulate the sports sector on it behalf but the beneficiaries found the council (National Council of Sports) more harm to sports development than good.

On many occasions, Sports Federations and Associations heads, athletes and the sports Community at large been pointing at National Council of Sports as the body that has creeped sports development in the country.

Many times national teams of different sports disciplines failed to represent the country because of less or no funding from the Council others put the nation on shame before the world and the most recent was that of Basketball national team the Silverback that was locked in hotel in Rwanda due to failure to clear the bills and it needed first son Lt Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to bail them out.

After putting up a good show in the 2022 Commonwealth games in Birmingham, She Cranes on their return in the country received only 50000/- each and on top of that it was the National Council of Sports security guard was in place to clear them with the token, the same team made wonders in Fast Five tournament held in New Zealand where they beat the world’s number one in Australia, Again they received no allowances.

This is not because government has been not allocating funds for the activities but the responsible authorities have been not doing their mandate right and ended up mismanaging funds and hence the suffering of the athletes and the sport.

With Sports ministers failing to solve the problem,  the office of the IGG interested in the matter of sports sector and they found out the dirty in the sector especially at National Council of Sports.

The case study was Netball Federation withheld funds to which the IGG directed Council to transfer the Federations money in seven days.

Once this matter get resolved to it’s last dot, IGG Hon. Betty Kamya and her deputy, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria will go history books of heros who saved the sports sector and cleared away the corrupt individuals.
