Hon. Nakiwala Kiyingi Proud of Her work Done as State Minister In Expired Cabinet
The State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi is proud of her work done in the past five years while in now expired Cabinet.
The former Democratic Party diehard, Hon. Nakiwala was appointed as the State Minister of Youths and Children Affairs, the section under Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2016 but according to the minister, she has done enough to be proud of in the ministry.
While speaking to this website, Nakiwala said that a lot has been reached at, a number of kids, women and Youths regained their freedom and rights under her tenure.
“A lot has been reached at but specifically on my side, I am proud that I have resettled over 2300 formerly evicted family members back to their matrimonial homes through my Tuesday child abuse advocacy clinics.” Hon. Nakiwala told this website.
Under the two lines, that is children and youths, statically, Ministry and Nakiwala had this to table in five years.
Key achievements in Children section.
✓Received, handled and closed 190,670 child abuse cases through the Child helpline of which 3,982 were child abuse, 186,688 were counselling, inquires and others.
Out of these, 883 escalated to casework for follow up and closure. From January 2021-March 2021, a total of 2,378 Children were served by the Child Helpline (1,669 abuse cases, 543 counselling cases and Call in for information and inquiry 166).
✓Provided Psycho-social Support and Basic Care to 5,643,654 Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC).
✓Commenced construction of Moroto Remand Home phase I and phase II.
✓ Completed construction of Kabale Remand Home phase II
✓ Completed construction of Masindi Regional Remand Home Phase I.
✓ Renovated Mbale and Fort Portal Remand Homes.
✓ Supported 1,147 children (997 boys and 150 girls) access justice through the remand homes
✓ Withdrew, rehabilitated and resettled 1,137 children from the streets
✓ Provided psychosocial support services (food and non-food items) to children and youth in Ministry institutions
✓ Established functional Early Childhood Development (ECD) coordination structures in 30 Districts
✓ Under the National Children’s Authority, the Ministry has trained 40 LGs in Child rights responsive planning and budgeting, produced and disseminated a Child Rights Hand-book, created 40 Child Rights Clubs in 40 Primary Schools to enhance Child Rights Awareness and developed and mainstreamed Child Rights Governance Indicators (CRGIs) in Local Governments’ Compliance Monitoring Check-list.
The youth section:
✓Disbursed Ushs162.972Billion to finance a total 20,522 youth projects under the Youth Livelihood Programme. This is benefiting 245,870 youth (46% of whom are female).
✓Started on the renovation of the Mubuku Youth Skilling Centre
Financed 6,596 Youth groups worth Ushs 23.411 under the Youth Venture Capital Fund
✓ Trained 16,526 youth in Non-formal vocational, entrepreneurial and life skills through the Ministry Youth Institutions (Ntawo Youth Training Centre and Koplin Youth Skills Centre)
✓ Under the National Youth Council, the Ministry has; provided training and mentorship for youth leaders, conducted capacity Building for youth leaders across the Country on Governance and leadership, sensitized and mobilized youth to promote Patriotism, Coexistence and National Consciousness.
The president is yet to reveal his new cabinet for the next five years, still waiting whether Nakiwala Kiyingi can retain her position.
