The Fort Portal based side, Tooro Queens on verge of not honoring the FUFA Women’s Super League match number 50 which was scheduled to be played on Sunday, 10th April 2022.
The Country Queens were scheduled to visit Kampala Queens FC in their first game of second round but found themselves in squeeze and dilemma either to honor the FUFA competition or the USSSA Rwenzori region qualifiers where almost 90% of their playing staff feature (students of King of Kings).
Since most of their playing staff are students of King of Kings College School and have to obligate the task that acquired them scholarship, Tooro Queens found themselves in a position where almost their playing staff is the same featuring in USSSA girls football qualifiers, they (Tooro Queens) wrote to FUFA competitions committee to reschedule their fixture against Kampala Queens but the latter dumped the request citing that they are running a tight competition calendar to which they can’t change, this is according to a letter this website received a copy.
“We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 06th April 2022, requesting to reschedule the above mentioned match from Sunday 10th to Tuesday April 2022.
Regrettably, we are running a very tight competition calendar and our wish is the league to end in time.
Based on the above, the match remains as per the fixture.” The letter signed by Competitions Director, Hajjat Aisha Nalule partly reads.
If it remains as per the FUFA stand, it means, the players who spent the whole of this week playing in USSSA Rwenzori region qualifiers and their knockout games are on tomorrow Saturday, that means they have to travel tomorrow night a distance of over 200km to honor a game on Sunday to which the management of Tooro Queens feel like can’t risk the health of the girls even though they want much to honor the fixture.
In their appeal to FUFA, Tooro Queens asserted that they can’t risk the health of the players and if FUFA can’t beat with them in this dilemma, they will not honor the fixture.
“We are writing to let you know that we may not be in position to endanger the lives of the girls to travel over 300km to Kampala for the fixture after they have played 6 games in a space of 3 days, 90% of FC Tooro Queens players are on the King of Kings School girl’s football team in the Rwenzori Interschool regional competition and the school has a semifinal to play on Saturday as well as a final on the same day if it progresses. We are considerate about finishing the fixture but very concerned about the lives and health of our players.” Tooro Queens’ appeal to FUFA partly reads.
“Therefore as stakeholders we request to support each other in the development of the beautiful game. We are investing in this game because we love to see the girls playing and enjoying themselves not to have the game as a risk to them.
A team traveling on Saturday night for a game on Sunday is stressing to the girls and of which the team has to travel back to fort portal to prepare for a home fixture against Kawempe Muslim Ladies. We find close to impossible to travel over 300km on a game and be able to complete.
As Tooro Queens we again request the match on Sunday to be rescheduled a later date. We are willing to honor the rescheduled fixture.” The letter signed by Kahuma Douglas, CEO Tooro Queens FC continues to read.
