Health: Allocate us 101Bn, We Give Free Medical Services to Public- Mulago Hospital ED Point Black Tells Govt
Mulago National Referral Hospital management needs Government to allocate the facility with 101.billion shillings if they are to fully give free medical services to public.
Currently Mulago, the Uganda’s National Referral hospital running on a budget of 8.7bilion but they are saying that it’s not enough to give all Ugandans free medication.
Dr Byarugaba Baterana who is the Excutive Director of Mulago as well as the secretary of the Mulago Hospital Board of Directors while sharing the progress and challenges the hospital is passing through to the board of Directors today at Mulago says the hospital would do better but the money they get is very small and can’t facilitate all the activities the hospital needs, such as paying workers, equipments among others.
Doctor Baterana says many people who come to Mulago demand for free Medical services which is very expensive with the Money Government allocates to them.
“Many people come here for free medication which is expensive and when we find out that we don’t have such medicine you need, we prescribe for you and but from outside.
We get 8.7bn which is not enough but if the government gives us 101bn, people will be getting free services.” Said Dr. Baterana.
The meeting of board of Directors is to mitigate the challenges the hospital get and to seek for further financials from the Government.
Tye Executive Director also asserted that the doctors and nurses at Mulago should be not working from different health centres so that they give serious attention to patients.
“Having doctors working from Mulago and other hospitals means that doctor won’t give enough time to a patient in Mulago, so we want doctors working in government hospitals not to have other working areas, we need them to be full workers.”
it’s remembered that Mulago Hospital started in 1913 by white massionaries and from that time has kept on upgrading with generations and currently has 1550 beds, 7 oxegyen plants and is the Teaching hospital for Makerere University school of public health.
