Asubo Ladies FC 0-0 Kampala Queens FC
The postponed fixture without a sounding reason from FUFA Competitions department has been finally honored on Saturday at Kampala Quality Grounds Kisaasi.
The encounter between improving Asubo Ladies FC and FUFA Women Super League defending champions, Kampala Queens was supposed to be played on Wednesday, 17th January but abruptly the competitions department of FUFA pushed it to Saturday 21, of the same month. The much anticipated encounter ended in a goalless draw at Kampala Quality Grounds with Asubo Ladies FC denying Kampala Queens a chance to Leapfrog Kawempe Muslim LFC and go top of the table.
Like they did against Kawempe Muslim LFC, Ssekamatte Leo’s charges never allowed Kampala Queens midfield to operate, the deployment of workaholic Zaina Namboozo, Sarah Nakuya and Sarah Babirye denied the visitors’ midfield of Damalie Matama, Shakirah Mutibwa and Hasifa Nassuna to exercise their duties.
Few goal scoring chances were created by both sides, Asubo had that of Kamiyat Naigaga which came in the 42nd minute of first stanza, her shot forced Daisy Nakaziro to pull out world class save to keep the game at level.
The better chance for Kampala Queens came in the 64th minute of second half, when Catherine Nagadya hard shot hit the pole.
“The nature of the pitch, it’s small, it’s bumpy and the rain has affected our play.”Kampala Queens Tactician, Charles Ayiekoh.
“We needed maximum points but because of the weather, it rained before the game started and the nature of the pitch, you couldn’t expect much, the nature pitch, it’s very small, it’s bumpy, the girls looked very disappointed but at least a point is good, lucky enough we didn’t concede.
Asubo became the first team this season to deny maximum points to two table leaders and their tactician, Ssekamatte Leo is happy for a point gained.
“Football, game plan plays the game, once the players follow and interpret the game plan, football becomes easy, so the ladies have tried to interpret the game plan and a point is good for us. According to how the league is and the nature of the opponent, a point is enough for me and we shall build on that.” Says Ssekamatte Leo, Asubo Ladies Tactician
The draw moved Asubo to 7th place on the log with nine points, five points better than they gather in first round of last season.
Asubo’s performance has been improving since the lost their three opening fixtures, in their last six games, they won two, drew three and lost one.
Kampala Queens maintained it’s second position on the log with 20 points, one behind table leaders Kawempe Muslim.
This first round alone, Charles Ayiekoh girls dropped seven points, last season they finished first round with maximum points.
The league is expected to resume for second round on 10th February 2024.
