FWEL: Asubo Earns Much Wanted Win against Isra to Send Super League Qualification Mission to Judgement Day
Atulinda Patricia, scored the only goal for Asubo-Gafford Ladies FC to earn a much needed victory on road against Isra Soccer Academy on Sunday evening at Highland SS Playground in Kisaasi.
The goal that earned Asubo a win came in the 53rd minute of the game, thanks to Atulinda’s powerful header converted from Madinah Nakaayi well laid corner kick from the left flank.
Both sides played to a goal less draw in first stanza, though the visitors, had clear cut chance to have a lead through Lucky Kobusingye but the Asubo’s top scorer failed to convert the ball at the back of the empty net.
The Victoria group table leaders played like a side that is determined to qualify to Super League next season, they never allowed the hosts to enjoy the ball possession in the final third, however, they pressed even more in the second half and they at least failed to score on four occassions with some hitting the lower post.
The win maintained Asubo on top now with 20 points, two above second placed Bunyaruguru Girls with one game to call it a regular season.
“We wanted this win, our mission is to qualify to super league, so today we first had a meeting as players, and we came in this game very ambitious and determined to win, we played as a team and we achieved the target. But the battle is still on, we need to win our last game against Ajax. ” Said Irene Nakiryowa, Asubo’s skipper.
To qualify to super league, Gafford only need to win their last game against Ajax on Sunday at Kiteezi C/U ground and the tactician, Benjamin Wanyama accepted that pressure is there but still have a chance to qualify to super.
“Yes the pressure is there because the teams are strong but the good thing we have won this and the girls are going to remain in camp, we need to win our last game at home.” Said Asubo tactician.
