FUBA Appreciates Angels Basketball Club for Impacting, Investing and Inspiring the in Future
In their drive to celebrate ten years of existence, Angels Basketball Club climaxed the kids Residential training camp on Sunday with a schools tournament held at YMCA Wandegeya.
The one day tournament was aiming at testing the skills kids acquired from the three days residential training they had at Africa Bible University that started on Thursday and ended on Saturday last week.
Angels U18 team won the tournament after beating Nation Changers Christian Primary School on final that ended 5-4. The tournament was of 3*3.
The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations, FUBA Youth Commissioner, madam Patricia Ayebale who attended the whole tournament, appreciated Angels Basketball Club for Impacting and Investing in local talents that will help the nation in future.
“Angels hosting such tournament is an encouragement to the Federation as you all know, the future is now. So the earlier we invest in our children and sports with them, I think the better for our country, but also it shows you that we all have potential, we just need to start from somewhere. Angels is celebrating ten years but also making sure that they are investing, Impacting and also inspiring the younger children, so for me it’s a plus for the Federation because these are the people we want to start working with. As a Youth basketball commissioner, I need to start as early as now not to start looking for players outside, so the earlier we start and using our normal local talent the better for us.” She appreciated.
In this tournament, the Nation Changers Christian Primary School 12 year old Nakazibwe Jane was voted the Most Valuable Player and expressed her excitement for wining the award and even learning many skills in the camp they had at Africa Bible University.
“I am happy for winning this award, as a younger basketballer, I want to be the best player in the nation when I grow up, I also want to be a national team coach.
In the camp learnt a lot, I got skills I didn’t know, like doing a V cut, screens, crosses, double taps and many more, so I wish I come back when this camp comes back.” Says Nakazibwe Jane.
Nantume Sandra, captain of Angels U18 team also revealed what they learnt from the camp.
“It feels good to win, we had a three days camp but we learnt a lot of things, one of the things I may say, in basketball, there must be hardwork, you can’t win a game when you are lazy, time management, we were given punishment when we reached late, we made friends, these people showed us the other side of the world, so it has been good to us ” says Nantume.
“During this Easter holiday, we had a camp where we combined all the girls from different regions, we had girls from doves, from Arua, Nebbi and some from Nation Changers which is our partner school. The was very successful, for the first time we got a chance to stand under one roof and have the routine that was scheduled around basketball and team building, so the camp was very successful.” Says David Atemi- teams Statistician.
Angels Basketball Club is a FUBA topflight side and the climax of their ten years Celebrations will be held on Saturday at Mengo SS with a basketball festival.
