FEASSA Games 2026: Muzza High School Kabembe Gears Up for East African Challenge

“The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.” These famous words by H. Jackson Brown Jr. perfectly reflect the determination and commitment currently driving Muzza High School Kabembe as the school intensifies preparations for the 23rd Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, scheduled to take place in Morogoro, Tanzania, from 12th to 23rd August 2026.
The Mukono-based school will be making its second consecutive appearance at the prestigious regional championship, with the girls’ lacrosse team targeting a much-improved performance after gaining valuable experience during their debut campaign in Kenya last year.
Daily training sessions, renewed confidence, and a burning desire to compete with the region’s best have become the hallmark of the team’s preparations. Players, coaches, and the school administration all share one ambition—to return from Tanzania with East African glory.
Players Hungry for Regional Success
Speaking to Voice of Bugerere Media, the players expressed confidence that the lessons learned from their maiden FEASSA appearance will inspire a stronger campaign this year.
“When we went to Kenya a year back, we were new to the games because it was our first appearance and we were younger than we are now. This time we want to come back as champions of East Africa. Depending on the support from our dear director, administrators and our coach, we believe we can achieve it,” said Aufa Nakagiri, one of the team’s players.
The youthful star believes the experience gained over the past year has transformed the team into genuine title contenders.
Captain Karen Tekako Eyes Bigger Dreams
Team captain and goalkeeper Karen Tekako acknowledged the challenge of balancing academics with sports but applauded the school administration for creating an environment that allows student-athletes to excel in both.
“Sometimes it is hard to balance books with sports, but our administration always creates time for us to train and also sponsors us to compete. The best way we can appreciate them is by performing well on stages like FEASSA,” she noted.
Karen also described lacrosse as one of the fastest-growing sports among students and believes the upcoming championship presents the perfect platform to demonstrate how much the team has improved.
“Lacrosse is a good game and quick to learn. For the last three years we have been learning and this is the time to showcase what we have learnt. I dream of playing in countries like South Africa, and I know that comes through hard work and producing results. I believe we can do that this time.”
Administration Confident of Better Results
Deputy Head Teacher and Head Coach George Mayanja reaffirmed the school’s commitment to nurturing talent alongside academics.
“The school administration understands that classroom teaching alone cannot guarantee the success of a child. That is why we continue giving these learners opportunities to showcase their talents. The training we have subjected our girls to gives us confidence that they will perform much better when we travel to Tanzania.”
Mayanja added that the school remains committed to investing in sports development as one of the pillars of holistic education.
Boys’ Lacrosse Program Set for 2027
As the girls continue making history, Muzza High School has also announced plans to expand its lacrosse programme by introducing a boys’ non-contact team in 2027, a move expected to widen participation and strengthen the school’s sporting culture.
A Remarkable Rise in Lacrosse
Muzza High School’s journey in lacrosse has been nothing short of impressive.
The sport was introduced at the school in 2024, with the team’s first competitive outing coming at the Super Six Tournament in Zirobwe, where they secured a respectable third-place finish.
Later that same year, the school participated in the USSSA Games in Soroti, finishing as runners-up to announce themselves among Uganda’s emerging lacrosse powerhouses.
In 2025, Muzza once again reached the USSSA final in Tororo, finishing second before qualifying for their maiden FEASSA Games in Kakamega, Kenya, where they finished fourth against some of East Africa’s best school teams.
Their upward trajectory continued in 2026 during the USSSA Games in Gulu, where they once again reached the final before narrowly losing 13–10 to Bombo Army Secondary School, earning yet another FEASSA qualification.
Eyes on Morogoro
With valuable regional experience already under their belt, improved tactical discipline, and unwavering support from the school administration, Muzza High School Kabembe heads to Morogoro carrying both confidence and ambition.
The girls know the task ahead will not be easy, but they also understand that every training session brings them one step closer to realizing their dream of becoming East African champions.
As the countdown to the 2026 FEASSA Games continues, one thing remains certain—Muzza High School Kabembe is not travelling to Tanzania merely to participate. They are travelling to compete, to inspire, and to write another memorable chapter in the school’s rapidly growing lacrosse story.
