FEASSA Games 2024 Climax: Netball Team Rescues Kitende, Amus Avenges as Uganda Lifts Overall Trophy

The 21st edition of the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Associations Championship has officially climaxed today (Monday) with Uganda again taking the overall trophy.
The hosts climaxed the championship with 13 gold medals and Kenya coming in as the second with 11 gold medals.
The tournament giants, St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende narrowly surviving returning home empty handed after losing in football and basketball.
The school’s happiness was resurrected by the Netball team that needed more extra 14 minutes to beat the most improved side, Kawanda SS with a difference of only two goals.
Kitende had a 11-07 lead at the first quarter break, in the second quarter, Kawanda returned very strong, scoring 14 goals against the eight Kitende netted in that quarter to end the first half 21-19 in favor of Kawanda.
The Charles Sserugga girls continued to maintain their lead at the end of third quarter, finishing 30-29 but in the last quarter, they made errors and brought Kitende at level.
The normal time ended square 38-38 and finally Kitende won it 51-49 after extra time to register their 19th record trophy in 21 editions.
This has been the first time Kawanda reaching final of FEASSA games.
Elsewhere, St Mary’s Kitende registered no victory, lost to Amus College School 1-0, the side the beat via spot kicks in the 20th edition held in Rwanda.
In basketball both 3×3 and 5×5, the school went empty handed after losing at semi final.
So they needed Netball to save them from the embarrassment they last had in 2018 when they returned home with no trophy.
At the closing ceremony held at Bukedea Comprehensive Stadium on Monday, the FEASSA president, Justus Mugisha termed the 21st Edition a special.
“This year’s edition was a very special one. The athletes played on first class facilities in schools, that were built to host the 21st edition of the FEASSA Games. Uganda has set the bar very high in as far as hosting these games, therefore Kenya (22nd edition hosts) have a huge task to push it even higher.” FEASSA president Justus Mugisha stated.
