Women’s golf in Uganda has received another major boost after equity bank injected UGX 3 million into the 6th edition of the Longe Ladies Open set to take place from May 21-23, 2026 at Namulonge Golf Club.
The annual tournament is expected to attract some of the country’s top female golfers alongside corporate and amateur players for a three day celebration of competition, networking and the continued growth of women’s golf.
Speaking at the launch of the event, Shillah Aine, the Lady Captain at Namulonge Golf Club, expressed confidence in the club’s readiness to host a successful championship.
“We are well prepared for the tournament. With the help of a strong backroom team, everything is ready and in place to ensure the event runs smoothly,” Aine said.
Equity Bank, through its continued investment in sports development, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women’s golf and nurturing more talent within the game.

Damalie Matama, the Diaspora Banking Manager at equity bank who represented the bank at the launch, said the sponsorship is aimed at empowering and developing more female golfers through continuous support and training opportunities.
Matama also revealed that the bank is partnering with the club in an environmental conservation campaign aimed at enlarging and improving the Namulonge golf course through tree planting activities.
According to her, the exercise will begin during the Ladies Open before continuing into the Equity NARO Open, with every participating golfer expected to plant a tree as part of the initiative.
The 2026 edition of the Longe Ladies Open will also bring color and excitement through themed dress codes across the three competition days, adding style to one of the fastest growing ladies golf tournaments in the country.
