Entertainment vs Health: Put Your ‘Kwepicha’ and Vulgarity Out of Our Profession, Medical Association Warns Omutujju

Gereson Wabuyi commonly known as Gravity Omutujju is more in limelight in Uganda’s Music Industry for releasing vulgar like songs.
His new release is the one dubbed Ddoozi and in the video with Shakira Shakira, another artist, Gravity acted as a doctor and this didn’t leave the Uganda Medical Association (UMA), the umbrella medical Doctors in Uganda not happy.
UMA president Herbert Luswata in the press conference held on Monday in Kampala came out to sound a warning to Gravity Omutujju citing that he is tarnishing the profession.
“There are pictures of musicians (Gravity and Shakira) which are trending on social media which are not looking good at all, where some musician is holding something which is looking like a needle and holding a woman bending down in a way which is very uncomfortable,” Dr Luswata said.
“This musician Gravity Omutujju is putting on a clinical coat and a stethoscope and he’s portraying to be examining a woman who is bending down against him and it looks weird for our professional.”
Dr Luswata said that as medical professionals they feel paralyzed and abused by Gravity’s song.
“It is as if these people are trying to portray that this is what we do to people’s women when they come to our examination rooms,” Luswata said.
He said the association is to write a letter to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), asking them to ban the song.
“I was talking to our chair of ethics and professionalism, and we are writing a letter which we are going to send to UCC. We are going to request to have this song banned on moral grounds.”
Known for socially conscious lyrics, Gravity has always had issues with authority figures and music gatekeepers due to his musical content.
When he was reached for comment about the statement made by the UMA president, Gravity Omutujju told Voice of Bugerere that; “I as Gravity, I am just vocalist like any other vocalists in Uganda, there are so many videos showing several professionals and also indicating security organs but there was no one complaining”. The songs of Alien Skin so called Ready For the War, he was using a Uganda Police uniform and no one was concerned, Today medics are concerned because of my new song DOOZI definitely that’s biasness”
On 19/Feb 2024 , his ‘Doboozi Lya Mutuuze’ song was pulled down from video streaming app, YouTube due to copyright infringement.
In 2017, he found himself in trouble with the National Resistance Movement over his song “Emyaka”. The party petitioned UCC to ban the song over its lyrical content they believed targeted President Museveni.
