Education: The Government Doesn’t Know When to Re-open Schools for Non-candidate classes

Reports have been circulating on different platforms that schools shall be opened in early February for non candidate classes but government has refuted the information.

The outbreak of coronavirus in Uganda and the world at large, the government of Uganda ordered all education institutions to call off their activities in March 2020 as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

But since then, almost approaching a full year when students are home, the government only allowed finalists and candidate classes to resume as they weigh the magnitude of the virus spread.

In the past few weeks, reports have been circulating that the government shall allow schools to reopen for continuing students in February 2021.

But via their official twitter handle, the government of Uganda refuted the claims and said the ministry of education will come out and inform the public when the schools will resume.

“The Permanent Secretary of @Educ_SportsUg ,Mr @AlexKakooza_ has said that Government has not yet agreed upon the re-opening of schools and Higher Institutions of learning for non -candidate classes. The public shall be informed when a decision is reached.” A tweet reads.

This website understands that the candidate students resumed with their education early this month and they are to sit their papers starting March 2021.
