Golf: Defending Champion Ssekibejja Struggles as Nsubuga superbly take Day one with 7 Unders

Godfrey Nsubuga has taken the early lead in the Uganda Golf Open amateur.

The star shot 65 at the par 72 Kitante Golf Course to finish the first day at 65-7 under.

After moving to the Course Nsubuga who plays for Uganda Golf club said “I am happy, my Swing came close and Putting were spot on, everything I did was right, It was my day”.

Nsubuga had an Eagle on hole 13, 6 Birdies on holes 1,2,3,5,6 and No. 14 and a par on the facing Bogey hole No. 17 a par 3.

It was expected that Joseph Kasozi have the nerve to match Nsubuga but he found trouble later on the last 6 holes using 6 balls on the 12th hole a par 4 before facing Bodey on the 15th, 17th and 18th.

Kasozi started okey with a Birdie on Holes 1, 4 to move into the best of the day on the par 5 hole where he gets an eagle on the number 5 hole.

Behind Nsubuga was Ibrahim Bagalana who shot 70 to finish as No. 18 finished the first day at 2 under while Peter Tumusiime and Joseph Kanolera maintained their par at 72

As defending Champion Andrew Ssekibejja faced the biggest disappointment of the day after closing at 82 and over 10 par.

The first 9 holes caused a bad day to Ssekibejja and the worst performance came at Hole number 5 where he used 9 strokes at par 5. He also faced several fairway offs at different hole.

131 players are taking part in the Uganda Golf Open Amateur Championship that’s underway at Kitante Golf Course and it’s climaxing on Saturday.
