COVID-19 Relief: Can the Gov’t Offer Such To Poor Ugandan?, KCCA Recommends Shs.252000

On Sunday, 20, June, 2021, the newly appointed Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja revealed that the government will give covid-19 relief to vulnerable persons in Kampala via mobile money.

However, on that day she did not mention how much the government will offer to the qualified vulnerable persons for these 42 days of lockdown that started on Friday 18th June.

In her statement after the National Covid-19 taskforce meeting at OPM office in Kampala, Nabbanja said that the committee on Tuesday, which is today will come out with the program and system how people will receive this cash and when it will start.

On social media, people have been predicting how much their dear country can afford to offer to them and most predicted 50000/- to 80000/- with s withdraw fee of 2000/-

However, the Kampala Capital City Authority that has the most dwellers who feed on daily income, recommended that the smallest the government can offer to Ugandan and survival should be two hundred fifty two thousand shillings (252000/-) for these 42 days of total lockdown.

The leaders of KCCA and the division mayors had a virtual meeting on Monday that recommended a minimum budget of 252000/- per person for these 42 days, they are saying that a person can spend 6000/- per day.

The leaders also discussed and agreed to have at least 800 sites where the city dwellers can get vaccination.

They also told the RCC who doubles as the chairman KCCA Covid-19 taskforce to pave a way how the venders who claim to have left their Cash in shops to get it.

The meeting asked at least two days to be given to these venders to pick what they want from their shops but in a way they can’t compromise the SOPs of Ministry of Health.
