CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers: “We’re Optimistic of Achieving Positive Results” -Kampala Queens Skipper Ahead of Semifinal

Uganda’s representatives in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers in CECAFA region, Kampala Queens, are set for a challenging test as they gear up for the first semi-final of the tournament in Nairobi.
The match, scheduled for 12:30 PM at the iconic Ulinzi Sports Complex, will see the Queens lock horns with Rwanda’s Rayon Sports Women’s Club, with the ultimate goal of securing a place in the final.
This semi-final clash holds extra significance, as the Kampala Queens aim to become the second Ugandan team ever to reach the CAF Women’s Champions League final. The only other Ugandan team to have come close was She Corporates, who made it to the final in 2022, only to fall short against Tanzania’s Simba Queens.
Having advanced from the group stages as the second-best placed team in Group B, Kampala Queens will now look to defy the odds, working as a cohesive unit with one shared goal: to overcome Rayon Sports and become the first team to reach the final of the 2025 edition in Kenya.
In the group stage, Kampala Queens secured crucial points, finishing behind Rayon Sports, but ahead of teams like Kenya’s Kenya Bullets and Tanzania’s JKT. With their eyes firmly set on the next stage, the Queens have proven that they are more than capable of competing at the highest level.
Speaking ahead of the semi-final, Kampala Queens’ captain expressed the team’s confidence and readiness. In a press conference on Saturday, 13th September, she said,
“We are fully prepared, and the players are in great shape, ready for the match. Thanks to the excellent training sessions provided by our coaching staff, we are optimistic about achieving a positive result.”
Kampala Queens’ head coach, Firew Hailegebreal, also shared his belief in the team’s ability to handle the pressure of the semi-final.
“We’ve studied our opponents closely, and they’ve done the same with us. But I have no doubt that my team will approach this game with the utmost care and determination, and we’re confident we’ll come out victorious.”
