Boxing: Olympic Gold Medal Price Shoots Up As Muhangi Promises Big
Currently 44 days remaining for the 2020 Olympic Games commence in Tokyo Japan, the promises keeps on coming to the Olympiads especially boxers.
At his courtesy visit to the Bombers Camp in Kavumba Recreation Centre in Wakiso District on Wednesday, the Uganda Boxing Federation president, Moses Muhangi promised millions to any Bomber winning any medal in the most prestigious Competition in the world.
Every medal has a stake, the gold medal winner will be taking five million shillings, silver medal stand at three millions while the bronze medal is at two millions.
In 2019, Muhangi promised three millions for gold medal winner, silver at two millions and one million for bronze Medalist of All Africa Games held in Morocco, Hellen Baleke bronze, David Ssemujju Kavuma (silver) and Isaac Masembe and they received the token.
“Last time as Muhangi, I promised three millions for gold medal, two for silver and one for bronze, this time round a gold medal is at five million, three for silver medal and bronze go for two millions, this is my stand as Muhangi but the executive will seat and see what it will offer to the team.” Moses Muhangi made his promise clear.
The team of three boxers, that is Shadir Musa Bwogi, Catherine Nanziri and David Ssemujju Kavuma will have two coaches, Patrick Lihanda and Mulandi Muhammad Hassan. Muhangi is saying any medal the team brings, each coach will receive 2.5M.
Rukundo Sam (Lightweight) is the last Ugandan to win any fight in Olympic games, it came in 2004 in Athens Greece.
So the president came back with another promise tht any boxer among the three that to represent Uganda to secure the maiden win in Japan will walk away with one million shillings.
“Mr. Ssemugabi reminded us that since 2004 we have never got any win in Olympics, so the first boxer to give us that win will receive one million shillings” Muhangi.
In the same press briefing at Kavumba, president Moses Muhangi condemned the acts done by members of the public and companies who have been taking out the boxers in guise of giving Support to the bombers, he asked those who want to give Support to visit the team in camp.
Muhangi is saying, these unnecessary movements from the camp might affect the health of the bombers with few days to Olympics.
Muhangi also asked government to pay the bombers their allowances before they travel.
