All Africa Senior Badminton Championship: Uganda Settles for Bronze as Team Events Climax on Sunday

The hosts of All Africa Senior Badminton Championship, Uganda have settled for bronze medals after her stars beaten at semi final level.

The Pearl of Africa that fielded twelve players in the championship that threw off on Thursday this week, had a good display but the hopes for Ugandans to secure the gold medals in team events ended today when the team’s stars lost today.

The pair of Brian Kasirye and Shamika Fadilah in mixed doubles managed to escape the quarter final stage with a convincing victory against Mauritius team (Aatish Ludah and Kobita Dookhee) beating them two sets straight (21-10,21-15). 

In the evening, team Uganda of Brian Kasirye and Fadilah Shamika had a belief that they will have a podium finish like they promised before but their dream was ended by Egyptians ,Adham Hatem Elagmal and Doha Hany who beat Uganda 18-21,10-21 and Uganda settled for a bronze in mixed doubles.

The same happened in women and men singles, Gladys Mbabazi and Israel Wanagalya lost to Nour Ahmed Youssri (21-17,15-21,16-21) and Mohamed Mostafa Kamel  by two sets to one (14-21,21-10,21-16) respectively. And these Ugandans failed to make it to final but settled for bronze medals also.

This means, Uganda and South Africa have settled for Bronze medals and Egypt will be facing Algeria on final tomorrow at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

 For starters, Sunday, 24th October 2021 is the climax of team events and on Monday, the individual events of the same tournament will be throwing off at the same venue.

This tournament do help players to collect points that will help them to qualify for 2022 Commonwealth games to be held in Birmingham in England.
