FWSL: Another Baptism of Fire as Kawempe Muslim at Home Painfully Fall to UCU
It seems, the super League football in Uganda is taking another step that is looking for at least two ingredients in talent and maturity if any club at this level is to lift a silverware.
At another attempt this season, the Women’s football powerhouse in Uganda, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC fall to an experienced and mature side in UCU Lady Cardinals FC, the same happened to them in a 2-0 loss against She Corporate.
On Wednesday evening, at home, the Valley Warriors lost 1-0 against desperate Cardinals, thanks to Jackie Nakasi late strike that came in the three added minutes after 90 mark.
Like any talented side, the Ayubu Khalifa Kiyingi coached side enjoyed the ball possession at least by 60% and created score able chances that would gift the visitors, their third consecutive loss of the season but none they did put away.
On the day, the valley warriors who had a big crowd like never before at their home, even with new Innovation of having public address system with sweet music that never allowed the fans to sit, had all it takes to secure the three points but due to lack of sharpness before the goal mouth and maturity at a certain level, they gave away the points to Varsity big girls.
The first stanza looked balanced, apart from the chance, lanky defender turned a forward, Shadia Nankya got in the first five minutes and Nakato Rebecca chance for Kawempe that came in the 9th minute and that of Hasiat Nalugwa that forced Diana Ruth Natukunda into a world class save, no other clear cut chance one could mention that was created.
In the second stanza Kawempe started knocking for a goal, Sharon Nadunga looked not fresh, Ayubu replaced her with Allen Nassazi, an O’level student, Phiona Nabulime came on for Rhoda Nanziri, the hosts continued to pile pressure to the visitors and they really reached there.
Halima Kampi had a silver chance to put Kawempe forward in the 65th minute but failed to strike before Allen Nassazi got a one on one chance against Hadija Nalongo but the ball stack in her legs.
But again, God granted another opportunity to Kawempe Muslim to score, another one on one, and the ball was in hands of Hadija Nandago but she also failed to score.
It seems God got tired of them wasting his granted chances he took them to UCU, the only opportunity, Cardinals got close to Kawempe forbidden area, got utilized by super Sub, Jackie Nakasi who tapped in the ball, Warriors three defenders failed to clear away from danger.
The error made before by Asia Nakibuuka, gave Shadia Nankya an opportunity to lay a great teasing pass between Kawempe Muslim defenders and their goalie, the four caught ice, in that confusion, it’s when Jackie Nakasi sealed it in the second last minute of the added time.
“Yes we lost but that can’t stop me from seeing the good game the girls played today, we only failed to convert our chances, but the game display was good, the girls did everything well but the confidence before the goal is what lacked but we are working upon that, we need to make these girls believe that scoring is a normal thing. ” Coach Moses Nkata told this website after the game.
Kawempe won none of their home games this season, lost two and lost one.
“This win means a lot to us, losing two games at home, surely it has struck us. We came wanting it, and honestly I attribute this win to God,. It will help us to pick momentum to win our next games. ” Said Mercy Nabulobi of UCU.
In their next fixtures, Kawempe will be traveling to Masindi to face off, Lady Doves FC while UCU will be at home hosting Rines SS WFC.
