Minister of ICT and National guidance Hon. Chris Baryomunsi has today at media centre in Kampala put his words straight before the cameras that the Late Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah death is not close to poisoning as it is alleged by the public.
The rumors been moving around especially on social media platforms when people alleging that the Speaker’s death is related with poison and his Father, Nathan also hinted about the same story.
“It was more clear that there was no poison that was given to him [Speaker] as it was alleged on social media , it was natural death but not poison.” Hon. Chris Baryomunsi said.
For starters, the President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni via his Twitter handle announced the death of Speaker yesterday.
Hon. Baryomunsi also asserted that the Parliament of Uganda is going to elect new speaker on Friday 25th March 2022.
However, the Ugandan constitution provides that no business shall be transacted in Parliament other than the election to the office of speaker at any time that the office falls vacant.
The election under the circumstances will be presided over by the chief justice until the new speaker takes on.
The new speaker will then preside over the session to his predecessor who died on Sunday in Seattle.
Baryomunsi also added that after the cabinet meeting, the government is going to form National committee which will come up with a valid program for the burial of former speaker of Ugandan Parliament.
Oulanya who doubled as the Omoro County legislator and vice chairman of the ruling party National Resistance Movement for Northern Uganda, becomes Uganda’s first ever serving speaker to die in office.
He was flown out of the country on February 3, 2022 , for specialized treatment following a referral by doctors at Mulago where he was admitted before his condition deteriorated.
This evening, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Anita Amongi Officially announced her resignation from the office as she is getting ready to be nominated for Speakership seat.
