Who Told You To Amplify Sound In COVID?- MoH Asks UCC To Prohibit Tumbiza Sound Song From Being Played On Air

Ministry of Health asked Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) to prohibit the playing of the hit song, Tumbiza sound because it’s against the COVID-19 SOPs.

The Uganda registered it’s first COVID-19 case in mid March this year, a number of music artistes came out to produce and release songs that asks population to follow all the put in place Ministry of Health guidelines as they curb or even eradicated the pandemic out of pearl of Africa.

However, when the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni started lifting ban on a number of economic activities, Entertainment industry felt left behind and through their talent, the musicians turned the guns to government requesting to also be allowed to get back to work as they follow the guidelines.

Among the songs that were released and topped the chart in Uganda is Tumbiza Sound song, sung by Eric Opoka aka Eezzy. Though people dance on the tune, Ministry Of Health want the song to be banned from playing on electronic and social media platforms.

A letter dated 4th December 2020, Ministry asked UCC to prohibit the song.

“However, it has been noted with concern that there is a song being broadcasted on electronic and social media with message contradicting the ministry of health Standard operating Procedure on COVID-19 prevention titled ‘Tumbiza sound’ by Eric Opoka aka Eezzy. The message in the song has in turn creating complacency among the public.” Letter reads in parts.

“This is therefore to request you to ban the airing of the song on all mass media channels so the public is not misled.” The document signed by Dr. Henry Mwebesa, Director general health services continues to read.

However, it’s now two weeks since the letter was written, UCC is not yet replied to the letter.

The ministry did, gave the song more hype and as we speak now, ‘Tumbiza sound’ is trending on twitter.

Entertainment industry is still on ban.
